Putting racing runners and riders on website

Hundreds of websites have racecards and results on them for UK racing. If I want to put them on my website do I have to pay racing to do so? I know the bookies pay the levy to do this but what about affiliates?

Believe it's similar to English / Scottish football fixtures which were enforced as copyrighted pre-internet - now it's becoming unmanageable - a bit like the Levy itself. Also think it was challenged in EU court, do know Dataco lost when they tried to enforce it on football fixtures. You'd assume horse comments would be copyrighted so the value of just presenting runners and riders is probably limited as most people would go to the site with better info - SL, RP etc.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the cases for databases. Do affiliates not pay for the fixture list for football then?

I assume if you are paying for a database you are paying for the product as opposed to copyright.

You might find the answer if you message someone on here who do publish racing cards to see what they say.

Thanks for that link. It says on the rate card 'pro punters' pay 8096 a year. This is for the supply and licence for pre race data. I don't really understand it when a 'pro punter' can get the information for free from dozens of websites.

Not sure why you'd want to do it....I just go straight to racingpost and would have thought most other racing fans do too
