What do you think about Google Buzz?

I like these new feature actually. It really makes sense specially if you want to know some updates about your friends. It will be very useful to me as I always check on my email at the same time reading something good from my friends posted buzz.

Google Buzz is Google's version of microblogging platform, where you can post updates similar to how you post your updates in Twitter and other similar sites.

I'm not crazy about the idea, but I think this application may have a big success, as it is shared by over 100 million gmail users and doesn't have the twitter's annoying 140 characters limitation.

If I was not so paranoid all the time I would likely embrace the buzz. With so much rolled into one package (not mine lol) I dread the thought what if? Like custom tailored adverts being placed in my gmail inbox already has me concerned with privacy issues. Now Google would like to add more features twitter, facebook etc… One stop slams dunk for Google IMO.

A few countries such as Canada are concerned,

Canada's privacy commissioner has chastised Google for not consulting with her before launching its Buzz social-networking service.

“We have seen a storm of protest and outrage over alleged privacy violations and my office also has questions about how Google Buzz has met the requirements of privacy law in Canada," Jennifer Stoddart said in a statement Wednesday.

Regardless many users will embrace these new features. Google is working on fixing the privacy concerns.

Thanks for the update Paolo ... The privacy concerns may annoy somebody...nonetheless Buzz is creating a "buzz" all around

I like the idea of having your e-mail and updates in the same place. I blog and tweet a lot for my business and this all comes up on my buzz section, so hitting a market that is not involved on Twitter or other social networks helps a lot. I already get feed back from people who never fully understood what I did, in a very positive way!

I have found some good information:

The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alleging that Google's new social networking service Buzz violates federal consumer protection law.

The EPIC complaint calls on the Trade Commission to require Google to make the Buzz service fully opt-in, to stop using Gmail users' private address book contacts to gather social networking lists, and to give Google users more control over their personal data.

"This is a significant breach of consumers' expectations of privacy," said Marc Rotenberg, EPIC, Executive Director.

"Google should not be allowed to push users' personal information into a social network they never requested."

Google introduced Buzz on February 9, and activated it for all Gmail users. When users began viewing the service, they were automatically listed as "following" post from their most common email contacts. Participation in the service also created a profile publicly displaying the list of common contacts.

To its credit Google has made changes to Buzz twice in response to widespread criticism, but EPIC maintains privacy violations remain.

The EPIC complaint argues email providers have a responsibility to protect the personal information that users provide and Google has not fulfilled this responsibility.

Google says it is still working on Buzz to improve it based on user feedback. "We quickly realized that we didn't get everything quite right," the company said in a blog post.

"We're very sorry for the concern we've caused and have been working hard ever since to improve things based on your feedback. We'll continue to do so."

Its far too early to know what I think about Google Buzz...............

I don't think its a bad tool to use...........time will tell

I think that too many tools doesnt necassary helps, but rather confused. Im a kind of person who's too much information is realy too much. I stick with facebook and even that can sometimes get on my nurvs....

Time will tell. Google continues to over-extend themselves, IMO, but like Microsoft, they have the resources. I have found that the overall quality of Google apps has degraded a notch over the years, but that is a function of over-involvement in too many areas. Google Analytics is a great idea, for example, but they have totally neglected the bandwidth requirement issues, for it.
