Default What's the Etiquette for this????!!

    Here's the story:

My nephew has a daughter by a woman he's not married to. Okay, nothing new about that, but....she has four kids with four different daddys!!

So, his daughter is the oldest, and she has a younger sister who is about ~1 yr younger. (Her sister's dadddy and family never do anything for the the girl...no presents, no visits, no support..nothing.)

Anyway, my niece and her siser are very close, and their team won our State High School Basketball Championship!!!

I am so proud of both of them!!

The issue: I want to get my niece something really nice. Should I get something where I can get both of them the same thing? Would it look bad to get my niece something more expensive than her sister?

    Thanks for the help.

Not the easiest of situations but I'd definately go for something the same for both.

You're proud of both of them so why not! Anyway, you get to make two people happy at once - double the joy!

I would get something for them both, especially if the sister doesn't have contact with her father's family and you think she's a good person too. Family is a feeling, not just blood relationships.

    Default one costs.

    Correct and well said!
I have three daughters, all three have different mothers but I love them all equally (And I am not the real father of one of them).
The important thing is that they all feel the same about me and each other.

Get them both something you are sure they will be happy with, no matter what the cost happens to be.

You guys are right of course. I am tickled to death for both of them. They've worked so hard all year, and this is a once in a lifetime event.

I want them both to be happy, with each other and with me.

In case you want to know, I'm getting them each a charm with their name and # on it. Inscription on the back. I think they will like it!!

I agree with everyone above and I think the charm you're getting them is very nice.

A small act of kindness goes a long way in a young person's life and by doing so you would make this girl feel special and loved. I'd do for both and do it knowing you are not only being kind but making a difference in the life of someone who most likey doesn't feel that way.

Hats off to you for your kindness!

Nice move Amateur. I think those charm's are a nice touch.

Spoil 'em both. They've both worked hard and life is too short...

Oh my god the charms are very cute! This is such a great idea and it is the right decision to get something for both because they both reached the aim and they deserve the present.

I bet they will love it. Great idea.

You are in a real difficult situation. However, (if you have not yet purchased anything yet) I would suggest you to get something similar for both of them. In case you get some different things, either one of them might think that the later's gift is expensive.

Thanks everyone for the input. I've never been associated with anyone who actually won a championship in anything, so this is so exciting for me.

The charms will take a couple of weeks, but they'll be a nice surprise for them.

One of the charms of any good forum, like this one, is to have threads like this one which has nothing to do with gambling, asks for some private advise and gets tons of them!

Of course, I also think the two girls should get the same kind of present.

I think you have made the right decision with the charms for them both. I'm betting they both will cherish them for many many years.

Well, done. I also agree with the above. I once got a more interesting present than my sister - we both where around 8. She got a cake, which we all ate together and I got a radio controlled car - how cool is that. However, I felt really bad for her since only because she was a girl she got the cake, which is basically no present at all. Go ahead and treat them equally.
