Redirecting from old site to new - removing forums

[allfreechips]

Soon I will roll out a new version of Allfreechips running on next13, I re-created pretty much everything other than the casino forums, not a lot of value in there I don't think but many url's to either 404 or redirect to my simple chat page.

Input appreciated on ideas to manage this one.

There are probably a number of ways to handle the redirects from the forums.

If all of the redirects are going to the same place you might be able to just
/phpbb2/* to /chatpage/

If you decided to send the news pages to a new news page you could
/phpBB2/news/* to /newnewspage/
This method might be considered for other categories.

Not knowing how many other pages and posts might have to be redirected might be a fact that helps you determine other redirects. If most of the existing pages not in the forum will be recreated you only need to concentrate the bulk of the redirect decision on whether it is worthwhile trying to salvage something from the various topic "themes" or "topic categories" some of the forum threads were posted under.

I think my concern is thousands of pages being re-directed into one or two.. I may create a static archive of the forums (these vb forums have been like an anchor around my neck).
