Google Keyword Tool question.

Is the Google Keyword Tool even vaugely accurate? I'm trying to target low competition keywords, but according to GKT, the exact match phrase 'online casino' is low competition, searched by 201,000 a month, as is 'online casino games', searched by 27.100 . I don't believe that for a second, but how am I supposed to find genuine low competition keywords?

'Online casino' is showing as high competition for me and 'online casino games' as medium in GKT.

What options are you selecting to get these results? Is it definitely set to the UK as well?

Feel free to PM a screenshot and I'll see if anything is out of the ordinary...

When you use the GKT I find you get better results when you narrow the search down to a specific country you are targeting, and also using exact phrase instead of whatever the default is.

True, and also don't 100% trust the results, the volume and competition isn't updated in realtime.
I believe that I've read that it's an average for the last THREE months.

But it's still useful and valuable to use it if you try to rank in google.

The 'competition' column relates to the competition for adwords, not the competition in the organic serps. If you had the target location set as the US (or any other country where gambling PPC bidding isn't permitted on google) then the competition would be low as no one is bidding on it.

If you change the location to the UK (where PPC bidding IS allowed) you'll notice it immediately change to 'high'.

GKT seems to follow the same data as SEM RUSH if I am not mistaken. Its really 3 months outdated. WHy do these programs use such outdated dates. Why can't they update every month? I would love to buy SEM RUSH and pay the $100 a month but why? Its out dated all the time.

This is no longer relevant as Google have integrated the "Search Based Keyword Tool" into the regular addwords tool.
