    Default Remote Hiring? :(

I've been window shopping for a job (Checking pay rates, perks etc), and why is it that UK Online Casino Progs require that affiliate managers be located locally? I had thought that they would be open to remote applicants but apparently not for online gambling.

    Any comments appreciated -Gracias!

Depending on the job you are looking for. Several sports traders for example work from home and in the past I worked from home managing affiliate programs. You can pretty much kiss goodbye to perks if you work from home as companies rarely would provide housing, car, phone etc.. to employees who are home-based.

Thanks for the comment. Im looking for something close to what I do now which is affiliate managing for adult websites. Making sure there's new incoming traffic as well as making sure the current ones sending keep on doing so

Any experience with gaming progs based in, lets say gibraltar? Malta? Israel? How are they like?

There are some companies that let their affiliate managers work from home, but I'd say the majority require you to be in an office which is logical - if I owned the company I probably wouldn't really want people accessing such sensitive data outside the constraints of my security either tbh.

Have a look on bettingjobs.com and Esanda recruitment. They usually list if the job is work from home.

That makes perfect sense Renee. I would too unless I didnt have a "real" office like the company I work for now where everyone is from everywhere else. There's a guy from germany, someone working on tech from romania and so on.

Thank you for the tip where to look, I really appreciate it!

Anyone who wants to comment, please do so! Thanks again!

A lot of the countries with cheaper labor have religions against gambling. But still you'll find people in places like india.

From a purely business perspective I can understand why.

Everything is under one roof at AE. Tech, Support, Affiliates Team, Marketing and Promotions.

It makes everyone's life much easier.

For example: If an affiliate has a tech issue I'm able to stroll over to the tech team and ask the Q, get an instant answer then get back to the Affiliate right away. Player Issue, I would see the casino manager etc. Skype is good and I still use it in the office, but sometimes its not enough.

Then there is security as Renee said.

Even if I could work from home, I'd choose not to.

If you are working from home your opportunities for promotion are much more lower
On the other hand, security is another issue especially in the iGaming industry

Keep in mind that many affiliate programs are promoting brands that may not be accessible to all players. Due to the restrictions on gambling in certain countries, you will continue to see these jobs being in-office positions. Unfortunately, for those that are from the US, this can cause problems since online gambling is a newly legalised thing. In regards to the UK, new laws state that operating online casinos must be located and regulated in the UK, so the restrictions regarding employment coincide with these laws as the country is trying to keep all online gambling localised.

I've done a lot of remote employing, because it's cheaper for me to get people in the East bloc rather than the UK, Germany or Scandinavia. And, that's the thing with remote --- you won't be making that much!! Unless of course you live in a country were the average salaries are low!!

Ohhh.. I adore working from home or from some nice place like cafeteria or somewhere by the water. It's very inspirational and I never abused this opportunity, being lazy or irresponsible.
To be honest, I don't like offices, because I personally don't feel creative in there. I like my own peace and routine, especially because I'm used to write much. It's so hard to be in the office when outside is nice sunny day
I also noticed that I actually work more when I'm not in the office

You will find most UK based operators simply do not have an HR policy in place to allow remote based work. Also as mentioned before, there are the obvious security issues accessing data from remote.

Speaking out of experience, remote based work seems very attractive compared to the office (no daily commute, you could work in your pj's)
But in reality, it can be a little challenging in the long run, I ended up doing 12+ hours a day working from home (it is hard to switch off as your home office is accessible 24/7)

Ive been working remotely for over 7 years now and Ive grown accustomed to being available during most of the day to my affiliates. Its not like I'm constantly up to my neck in work during those 12 hours (in my case, way beyond 12 hrs a day). Its only hard at the beginning when you're still gathering your affiliate base but once everything's all set, its basically just maintenance and a bit of research here and there looking for new affiliates and finding new ways to increase sales.

A typical day for me is spending between 2 to 4 hrs doing maintenance, checking stats and making sure everything's going well. While the rest of the day is just making myself available to my affiliates in case they need anything. Im hardly if not never stuck traffic and get to reply right away 95% of the time, and if your an affiliate yourself, you know how good that is to be working with someone whose always there for you. Especially when there's a problem like 404's, broken links and such.

Too bad about the HR policies of most UK companies though -I'd really love to get into the biz sometime soon.

Anywhoots, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. This place has been very helpful and the people here are just awesome!
