Every time I see something posted about him it chokes me up a bit and I have to hold back tears. I literally yelled out WHAT? ARE YOU ******* KIDDING? when Celia told me the news yesterday. It's so sad that the world will most def be worse off without that great man.

There are and were a few inspiring people like Steven Hawking. Every single sentence from him is full of wisdom, deep feelings, and astonishing inspiration.
R.I.P. Steven, people will always remember you and will share your wisdom around.

How many of you had the fortune to see the Corpus Clock unveiled by the professor Hawking in 2008. If you don’t, it is a very interesting site to visit there. I went with my girlfriend (now my wife) back in 2015 and loved it.

Just to highlight, it is very happy to see how lots of tributes were made in life, he managed to see by himself how
important was he to our world.

I am curious how many people understand what he wrote. Even in the people for normies.

I tried to read "the brief history of time" and I did not understand it. I understood some Hawking or astrophysics interpretations from other people who bring the astrophysics to average people (the best so far was G. Gamow).

Maybe he was too far ahead, but IMHO his pop-books were not good. But everyone was so excited, because he was kind of cool pop-icon and battled bravely his destiny. Anyone has the same or opposite experience? Maybe I am just superdumb or read it from bad translator.

Hawkings had always been a proponent of black holes being the end of it all; a place where no information can come out and is destroyed forever; which was mathematically proven to be untrue in 2003.

The Simulation theory that Elon Musk talks about on the media is the Holographic principle.

We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that, I am extremely grateful.

There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority and science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win, because it works.

IDK... maybe I'm an outdated, old-school dinosaur, and my core values are obsolete these days. Either way, I commenced this thread out of respect for a person, who, regardless of his beliefs, had passed-away 24 hours or less.

If you don't agree with his theories/beliefs, then that's your prerogative to do so.

But lets not dish Stephen here. You want to do that? Then please show some respect for the topic, and start another thread...

I do not know whether he was wrong or not, after all in science everything is liquid. I was just curious whether someone found his books readable. I was sadly out of luck as I am out of luck for example when reading about cryptography. So I am dependent on secondary sources.

I am merely curious whether the millions of people mourning and praising his books were really understanding his work. Because I sadly was not.

Stephen Hawking was, is and inspiration to us all, from the moment he came to know about his illness to the moment of his death he poured everything he had into every moment the outcome is a life which many can look up to. RIP

I don't think many people understood him, he just was a genius, and if he was sometimes wrong that is because he was human, like us all! Do you know somebody that never made mistakes? I definitively don't know of such a person.
As for believing in God, afterlife, religion and such, everyone has the right to believe what he/she wants and no one can tell someone else what to think or in what to believe.

There have been a great number of times that theories have been debunk and then later found to be actually true or contain more truth than the theory that debunked it, but for now we assume Hawking was wrong perhaps down the line we may find something else that disproves our disproof, but this is just idle speculation.

I never understand the "hype" arround this guy...i read some snippets from him - for me was this guy, stupid and clever simultaneously.
Only two Examples...because I do not want start a discussion here...

If people design computer viruses, someone will design AI that improves
and replicates itself," he said. "This will be a new form of life that
outperforms humans.

"I believe we have reached the point of no return," he said. "Our earth
is becoming too small for us, global population is increasing at an
alarming rate and we are in danger of self-destructing."

Stephen Hawking was a great man and scientist. I feel he deserves a medal for not allowing his illness to stifle his inspirational theories about black-holes, the cosmos and science. As a scientist, I'm sure he was aware that his theories could either be proven or disproven with further research and resulting evidence by his peers. That is what science is all about: theories that are confirmed by evidence and nothing else.

Well in essence an AI with basic intelligence the ability to self replicate and learn is about as close to synthetic evolution humanity can create with current technology, and the extent of its abilities may be beyond our scope of understanding right now which could very well mean we could create a self-aware self-learning entity that is essentially alive. or at least very close to sentience.

So he wasn't "stupid"
