Default Is it safe to launch a website in India with a ccTLD domain?

Hey, guys really happy to be part of this community I have a quick question on which I would appreciate your thoughts.

We're about to launch an affiliate website in India with a ccTLD domain name, however, given the nature of the market do you think that there is any risk in going ahead with ccTLD instead of a TLD domain?

Using a ccTLD for India is fine if your audience is mainly Indian. Are you planning to expand beyond India?

Launching a website with a ccTLD (country code top-level domain) in India can have both pros and cons, depending on your goals.

Using a ccTLD like .in can be great for local SEO and building trust with Indian users, as it signals that your site is specifically targeted at the Indian market. Google tends to rank ccTLDs higher for country-specific searches, which could give you an edge in local traffic.

However, there are some risks. Depending on your niche, especially in industries like gambling or affiliate marketing, Indian authorities could have stricter regulations or oversight for websites with a ccTLD. It’s important to check the local laws and policies to ensure you’re not violating any regulations. In some cases, using a TLD (like .com) may provide more flexibility if you want to operate internationally or avoid potential restrictions.
Ultimately, it depends on how localized your site will be and how well you’re prepared to navigate any legal complexities in the Indian market.

    Good luck with your launch!

Whenever you're in a sort of grey market like India, I prefer to use TLD domains. I'm not an expert on Indian laws, but I know other Geos where the government can shut down ccTLD domains, which makes it quite risky.
