Ofcourse its usefull. For example if you have 10 keywords that have 200 searches monthly and you rank #1 for all of them, its pretty much as valuable as a keyword with 2000 searches and #1 rank. Might even be better because the variance is lower.
Also its so much easier to rank good for stuff that isnt so popular.

Main focus ofcourse should be on the keyword quality, Id rather rank for "pokersitexxx deposit bonus" than "britney spears nipple slip" even if the britney spears keyword would be 10x more popular. Just because the first keyword is so much more likely to convert into depositing players.

I think you can only target a simple or small visitors too. The chances to be on the top 10 position can be achieved but only few visitors are expected.
