Default A single player completely destroying all commission

    Hey,

I haven't encountered such a situation before, so was hoping someone who has may share their experience.
There's a player with one of the brands (so far this has been the most profitable) I am working with, who just completely destroys all commission leaves a big fat minus and does it over and over again.
I am considering stopping sending traffic there altogether, since that is a complete waste, but before dropping them I was going to ask and see if they will remove this player from my aff account.
So the question is, how likely are sportsbooks to remove a player from an affiliate account upon a request like that? It is kind of fair to leave him, since I brought him in and I now need to be held accountable, but maybe you had this done before, and mby there are some certain things I should / shouldn't mention to have a better chance of getting this done?

    Hi,

Speak with your affiliate manager. Keep it honest and and voice your concerns. It sounds like you are both losing to this player.

    Regards,

It's pretty common to get players on a roll for a while, some players are just bigger than others. The bigger your account base the less you'll notice it (ie: if you normally do £1k in a month and get a -£5k player it's more noticable than if you do £100k a month and have a -£5k player).

Tbh if it's a decent bookie with solid risk management and the player is still active I'd just ride it out. The time where you might want to have a rethink is when the account stops being active and you have NCO and a bit fat negative balance (but often it works out anyway).

Obviously different if the bookie isn't great and the punter is taking advantage of weak lines or something like that, but generally speaking if the bookie isn't worried about the account then neither should you.

Should be a nice reminder to not put your eggs in one basket though.

Also.. you could ask them to remove the account but often the money flows back so you're potentially shooting yourself in the foot and throwing away a big account (some of our biggest accounts started out winning). So if you do approach your AM ask them to ring fence rather than remove them.

Be less concerned about accounts with big deposits, multiple bets and high turnover. That just means they play for higher stakes.

The ones that tend to take the money and run are the low stakes lucky acca wins. Ie: Small stakes/turnover, large win.

Speak to your affiliate manager about this and see what the recommendation is. This is obviously a losing deal for everyone involved and you might be able to ring fence the player, since you say that this is always the case with this player in question. Your situation sounds unusual, but not far fetched. Anything's a possibility.

Not got a lot of experience here...so this might be wrong...

and assuming this is sports betting related (though prob irrelevant)

But isn't this a scenario where potentially not everyone is ending up down (aside from the punter maybe, because they might be losing elsewhere)

So OP is down from that punters wins
Operator appears to be down from same
But if OP sent other punters that are losing
Then operator is not having to pay affiliate for them, and hence the losses there are doubly working for the operator (an offset, in other words)

Don't know how likely that is, but seems possible. In which case, operator might be unwilling to rock the boat

Ask them to quarantine the player until the player is profitable again. Many places will do this for you.

Also, this can happen even if you have thousands of players, or tens of thousands. A whale on a hot streak winning hundreds of thousands of dollars will wipe out commissions. As can being the lucky affiliate to players who win Jackpots (we had 3 six figure jackpot winners last month, FML!!).

I have half a dozen players quarantined across various sites. I think one of them is up half a million over the last 18months playing blackjack, it's insane.

That is mad! Over time you'd expect these things to equalise a little I guess.

Yeah, I had someone cash out what would have been a losing football bet for a high 5-figure payout on one bookie with negative c/o off of a tiny stake. Given it was a one-off I had to work through the negative over the next few months but got there in the end. Had the conversation with the bookie in question about quarantining but let it ride as it wasn't fatal - I guess there's only so many times you can go to the well with this kind of thing, so left it in case there was a bigger issue that needed sorting in the future.

On a general note though, and I'm talking generally UK and generally sportsbook, the proportion of winners over the past 4-6 months seems to be far higher of late. Could be variance, and some bookies have alluded to 'punter-friendly results' in their analysis, which is fine but certainly seems to be a trend that's continuing.

This can be quite common however one month would be amazing and the next would be terrible. All we could do is hope that the huge gains we not wiped out at the end of the month. Thankfully many programs do not carry over negatives.

You can have very successful months but can't rely on one player. Either they start winning or stop playing.

We've had accounts like this ring fenced in the past, if they drop those winnings back and become profitable you can still earn from them but at the same time they are separated from your main player base. We've only ever been able to do that with brands we send a fair bit of traffic to and have a long history of good accounts. If that is the case then usually they will accept that one player is an outlier and may be open to ring fencing.

Our program runs into this every few months.

RS affiliates could be put into a longterm hole (neg balance) from a single whale winner, jackpot, parlay or horse superfecta winners.

In many cases a big win is good thing of everyone, player has a good experience, cashes out, "word of mouth", plays longer and potentially gives a little back in the next month.

Best to discuss with your AM about the situation.

From our FAQ section on the subject.

    Talk to your affiliate manager.
If you are a successful affiliate, they may be able to help you.

However, the negative commissions will last but a few months.
I think that player will lose money someday. LOL.

My understanding is that the best thing to do here is to simply contact your affiliate manager and be straightforward about the issue. I know some people hesitate to do that kind of thing because they think it can easily swing in the opposite direction, but it just is what it is sometimes.
