Well IMail from Ipswitch is good, but a bit more expensive....especially if you will be hosing a lot of domains.

Smarter Mail from Smarter Tool is an excellent choice and the licensing is more attractive for the larger licensing needs.

Both of them support smtp authentication and work well in front of or behind firewalls.

If an affiliate program is not small affiliate friendly (especially small US Affiliate), then they are NOT Affiliate Friendly!

From some research I did for another client recently, there are a few other choices listed below:

Post Path on Linux has made some good improvements as an alternative to Exchange, but it is still having some issues with Outlook 2007.
Mailtraq (windows) also looks promising as Exchange alternatives, but the licensing climbs quickly as it does for Exchange when adding many other users.

For the price of either of the above....and both of them touting how much they emulate Exchange....you might as well go with the real Exchange.

My research shows Zimbra to be one of the best Open Source Exchange alternatives that runs on Linux. In fact it is what Yahoo's own mail is built on.

A number of choices, but I would still lean toward Smarter Mail since it would serve your mail needs for as many domains and users as needed long into the future, and gives you pop and web based email, and the latest versions support Blackberry's and Windows Mobile devices.
