I did manage to grab one of the affiliate links for Interops from one of the pages....

    http://www.dharmalog.ca/4192053.html

    http://www.intertops.com/sportsbook/...Z17;context=cs

The actual affiliate code in this case is "XYZ17" The cs part just sends the visitor to the casino and not the sportsbook

Interops is a well respected Affiliate Program (I just wish they had better creatives....)

But keeping the thread on track...

Damian, I'm guessing there has been some major site scraping by these guys? I did not follow all the links, does each one redirect thru to Interops?

If you found numerous instances of scraping and it does turn out to be the same affiliate and you can prove theft of your content then you certainly have something to approach affiliate programs with.

Although I am an affiliate of Interops, I have never had much personal contact with them and have only very recently given them much exosure so I can only supply you with the standard affiliate email...I will pm that.

Intertops used to know how to get traffic to their site, but over the last year or so have resorted to buying ( and letting their affiliates buy) 100's of 1000's of pathetic domains jacked up and loaded with keywords and other bogus crap, and their IMO spamming google's rankings. It's pathetic actually. What happened to the days of search engine optimization. Now a days sites like intertops are a scam, and I won't for one have anything to do with them

sorry dude, don't know the answer to that ? - I don't care. I see 100's of domains on google and msn every day when looking for my sites in keywords, and its hilarious what they've resorted to to get traffic to their site. If its them their pathetic, if its an affiliate its understandable, but if their letting their affiliate do it that's pathetic as well.

Sites like this do nothing good for the search engines, all they do is clog up the rankings with CRAPPY affiliate links, no good content, and the honest hard working people like myself and most of us here can't do anything about it but pout!

The first few listed here are intertops sites......others are just more crap I found in 1 search today in the top 30 on google

    WebMeisterQ,

Man this just sucks. I also found some a-hole doing the same thing with my brand name. In fact I've found a few sites that have stripped my brand name and are using these in their Discriptions & Keywords too.

    xhttp://bbs_forum_gambling.y009.sexe10xd.com/

    redirects to Vegas Red.

Contacted Fortune affs about another prat who was doing it too. Didn't hear back though.

What usually happens, is they "scrape" your keywords from your site. There is a more detailed explanation than that and hopefully someone will drop in here with the correct answer. Basically though, it "robs" your keywords from your site using some type of software, then builds pages based on them, effectively stealing positioning from you with pages that are nothing more than garbage.

I think that copyscape (www.copyscape.com) is pretty good at that. You can also take a piece of your site, say 10 unique words in a sentence, and then search google. I actually found a number of copycats using the second method before copyscape came along.

When you get to the site, you will then be able to tell the difference between a scraper (loads of junk content with no active links in the middle of this jumble of content) from a pure copycat (site with non unique content and their own links).

    bigbcasinos,

Apart from informing the aff managers to this practice, what other steps can one take? Probably not much huh!

Well you could sit around pouting or you could utilize that “sorrowful” time more constructively.

Firstly, consider contacting the search engines, most of them offer forms and instructions on how to report SPAM or copyright violations.

    Google: xhttp://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html

    Yahoo: xhttp://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/ysearch/cgi_reportsearchspam

In addition to filing SPAM reports to Yahoo you can also report copyright violations to them as well. Sending an email to copyright @ yahoo-inc.com outlining the copyright violation may get the content removed.

    MSN: xhttp://support.msn.com/eform.aspx?productKey=search&page=support_home_opt ions_form_byemail&ct=eformts

Secondly, contact the affiliate programs who these individuals are promoting. Most ethical programs are ready and willing to assist you in reaching a resolution regarding these type of issues. If they are not willing to do so, you might want to reconsider partnering with them and look for a program that is already taking a stand against unethical behavior.

Thirdly, you can post about it right here, name and shame the webmaster and publicize the lenient attitude the programs they promote have regarding the unethical behavior of their affiliate bases.

Lastly be persistent don’t let them get away with it. Your fellow colleagues should not be permitted to negatively affect you using unethical and unfair business practices. Speak up and be heard or forever hold your peace.

Well Mr iGami, I typed a similar reply and at that stage, the darn site went offline LOLOL So, SNAP!

wager2winUK - Here was my reply, I fortunately saved it on notepad to add when the site came back online. It is very similar to the advice above:

On the contrary. The affiliate managers are indeed a great place to start but add to that google, yahoo, MSN, his host. Some of our webmasters enjoy good success by contacting their host.

Mainly though, the affiliate programs are the best because you are cutting out the very reason for the sites existence if the affiliate site closes his account.

If a program ignores your plea for help, make sure you have allowed a bit of time for them to help you, and make sure you have contacted them a few times and then I think they should be named and shamed. Keep proof that you contacted them!

To profit from the underhanded tactics employed is simply NOT acceptable. I know some programs do ignore this but if enough people mail them and then get ignored, then there will be a build up of resentment on the part of the honest webmasters, many of whom will probably not promote them. Eventually they will only have the scrapers and black hatters as clients and as google and the others come to terms with these technologies, these programs will be left with a lot of unethical relationships and no valuable ones.

They will have reasonably intelligent, if unethical staff and no doubt, when the writing is on the wall, they will know when to come back looking for the honorable webmasters. At this stage, it will be our choice to support them. I somehow think that forgiveness from many will come very hard indeed.
