    The USA seems to take a tougher stance on sports betting. I'm not sure why this is, but it may be because the wire act explicitly states sports betting over the phone to be illegal, and fails to do so for other forms of gambling.

    It's probably a freak incident, but american webmasters might want to stay away from anything sportsbook related.

    "the functional equivalent of a wire room, or a location where bettors could call or log on to and place bets."

    The article indicated that this particular site was directly involved in taking bets – that for sure is a big no-no and quite a bit different (imho) than simply advertising.
