Sports Interaction betting analyst Frank Doyle makes his picks for the Wild Card weekend.
The eleven points the Saints are laying at Seattle is the biggest number on Sports Interaction’s board this weekend. It has to be big because the Saints are Super Bowl champions, a proven team of high calibre, and the Seahawks are only in the playoffs because they play in the very poor NFC West.
Taking the Seahawks with the points is something the bettor ought to consider. Qwest Field provides the greatest home field advantage in the League, the Saints are a dome team that has to travel and play in the nasty winter weather of Seattle and eleven is a very big number for a home team.
However. Seattle haven’t lost any close games this year – when the Seahawks lose, they lose big. There is also the question of how Seattle can keep up with the Saints if – when – the Saints offense clicks into high scoring production. New Orleans -11 at Seattle with Sports Interaction is the bet.
The Colts are not playing well this season and are perennial under-performers in the playoffs. They’re still good enough to win and cover at home to the Jets. The Jets defence hasn’t been all that this year, Mark Sanchez is exposed as a limited quarterback and Rex Ryan has become a laughing stock. The Jets caught fire last year in the playoffs when nobody saw them coming – this year, everybody’s card is marked. Indianapolis to win and cover with Sports Interaction.
Kansas City’s loss at home to Oakland, the Chiefs’ first home loss of the season, make handicapping Baltimore’s visit to Kansas City very tricky. Baltimore is a three point road favorite with Sports Interaction because the Ravens are a proven veteran team whereas the Chiefs have been playing above themselves all season. The defeat against the Raiders was the first crack in the edifice, and the Chiefs will be crushed by the Ravens on Sunday.
Except that the evidence of the rest of the Chiefs’ season this year would suggest otherwise. And the Ravens don’t really light it up in the playoffs. And you’re getting the home team with points. Chiefs +3 at home to Baltimore with Sports Interaction is the pick.
Finally, the Packers’ visit to the Eagles rounds out the Wild Card weekend. If Michael Vick catches fire he can destroy Green Bay on his own – no-one is any doubt about that. But it’s been a hard season on Vick and you have to wonder if he’s not just too beat up to continue.
Did Vick peak in Week 10 against Washington? He was outstanding that Monday night, but he’s looked distinctly mortal since, especially at Soldier Field in Week 12. Yes, there was the come from behind win against the Giants but how much of that was the Giants’ own fault for not closing out?
Green Bay has laid some eggs this season but the Packers seem a little more consistent that Philly right now, especially when you get the points. Green Bay +3 at Philadelphia with Sports Interaction is the final pick of the wild card weekend.
