Sweden to Elimiminate Monopoly

It has been reported that Sweden may eliminate the states gambling monopoly. In the article it reports that a licenced based system that would be tax generating would increase from 23% to 90%. This would also would affect operators operating outside Sweden to be under the new regulation.

Good thing it wasn't the board game! As mention, I believe taxes are going to end up around 18%, it's not big news though as this has been expected for years.

It is quite big news. Sure, it has been expected for years, but nothing has happened. It is still a long way until the laws are changed, but my guess is that most of these proposals will happen in 2019 or 2020. The elections next year might mess things up though.

For the promotion of illegal gambling, i.e. a breach of the promotion ban, the Inquiry believes that the range of punishment should be significantly raised in relation to what is applicable today. It is proposed that the range of punishment be the same as for the principal offence, i.e. from fines or imprisonment of at most two years or, if the crime is gross, imprisonment of at least six months and at most six years.

It is also proposed that promotion of illegal gambling will be criminalized for people living outside of Sweden as well if they promote unlicensed gambling companies to a Swedish audience.

Both good and bad, not alla casinos will be able to operate under the new laws. However the online gambling market share will drasticlly increase which is very good in terms of player activity and the fall of the current governments offer of casino games.
