    Default should i purchase links?

    Hi,

Very newbie question - should i consider purchasing links from a link provision service? has anybody had any success with this or is it a waste of time if the linking sites are not related to the content of my site?

Any comments or experience notes welcome.

    Cheers

    Short answer - NO!!

Save your money. Your site is quite niche specific so I would look for other BJ sites to trade with. You only want to generate 15 - 20 links a week at the most to start with.

My advice (my opinion based on my experience)
Spend more time on producing good content than on link building - SE's are more interested in content rich sites that are constantly being updated than they are in in-coming links.

A balanced approach is best for website promotion. The most successful sites tend to include the following elements:

    1. Fresh, Unique and Relevant content. Add to this daily if possible.
    2. Proper site set up to ensure easy and intuitive navigation.
    3. Sitemap in xml and html
    4. Proper Meta and body tags.
    5. No hidden text on page or anything that appears spammy to search engines.
    6. Obtain incoming links from related sites. If possible gather links from authority sites even if you must pay.
    7. Dynamic content including news, blog and forums.
    8. Integrate with all major social networks and have links for user to bookmark or rate you on each page. http://www.sharethis.com offers a great free button that you can configure and add to your site to simplify process.
    10. Write weekly articles for distribution via Free Content directories. Make sure your author box is set up properly to provide you with backlinks to your main site(s)
    11. Add a signature at all the message boards and blogs that you frequent and chat on.
    12. Dont buy links from bad neighborhoods. This includes banner farms, ****** "$100 for 10,000 links deals", adult sites etc...
    13. Add incoming links slowly and vary the anchor text. Adding too many links too quickly sends up a red flag to search engines.
    14. Obtain Links to sub pages within your site.
    15. Be patient and consistent. It takes months to get established at most search engines so focus on the above tips and the rankings will come.

Go for content linking if you wish to buy links so that it would appear like natural links. Always consider the relevance of the content you like to have your link posted. Relevant and Quality link always good.

Hidden text is text that exists on a web page that is not viewable to the visitor.

This can be done a number of ways such as using a font color the same as the background, or using a font size that is so small the visitor can not rwad it, or maybe even adding it in a layer with absolute positioning that uses an index that is way off to the right or left and is therefore not visible.

Any and all of those can work against you if discovered by the engines.

And if some of those tactics (and others) are not immediately discovered by the engines, they may be discovered by other affiliates and then reported to the engines....

Theres a good video about the lengths people can go to to hide text on the youtube google webmaster channel:

Basically, dont hide text - you will be caught out eventually! Especially in such a competitive industry where everybody and their mother is looking for a reason to report you to the Big G!

Purchasing links is generally a waste of money when you're starting out. Although, purchasing services such as social bookmarking, article distribution, etc. is usually worth the money.

I always heard buying links is a waste of money. plenty of people will eventually request link exchanges with you at some point in time. Content is king for the beginning stages of your site.
