Telephone Calls From Horse Racing Sites

My site's been online about 6 months now and I am obviously new to this.

This past week I have received 3 telephone calls asking me if I'm interested in joing Horse Racing affiliate programs. They are all "Horse Racing." After my own research, 2 from Costa Rica, 1 from Israel.

From what I can tell, they are getting my number from "whois" info. I suppose its spam, but in a different form. Naturally, I'm given the option to decline over the phone, its just sorta weird.

Is this common?

Ok yes it's very common, i say you best get used to it or change your number in your whois data.

If you decide to change your number in whois data, I recommend using a sheild or hide.

ICANN Policy dictates the whois information data MUST be accurate. Failure to keep the information acdcurate risks the domain name.

I have a site for about 3 months and I get offers for CPA and paid advertising "email only thank God" the problem is I only get about 10-15 Unique visitors a day I don't think is an adequate amount of traffic to accept this offers.

Unfortunately as soon as your website gets some decent rankings for popular keywords you will start receiving a lot of phone calls. I find that it's usualy the crap companies that phone. It has come to the point where I dont answer my phone if it shows up as a us state, unknown, or blocked. A good solution is to list a fake number but as stated earlier this goes against ICANN policy.

Emails fortunately are easier to handle. You then have time to analyze the offer.

The positive side of this is that you can often negotiate higher commissions. These are commissions that are often not even posted and are inaccessible to the average affiliate.

I'm about to shoot some of them... They dont take no for an answer! Biggest offenders for me are MVP Sportsbook and Bet VSI. And if they do, they call the next week for a different site. Oh, and if you don't take their call, they will call over and over until they reach you. Even the somewhat rude message on my voicemail doesn't dissuade them.

MVP is horrible, a while back they would call several times a day for weeks on end.... I said no no no and then they'd find another site or get someone else to call....
