Tiger in US Open
I'm in two minds about him. On the one hand, I love watching him play - even when he is playing bad, he is interesting to watch.
On the other hand, I can't help thinking about how badly he has mistreated his family. Although I do believe in second chances, some things are bad enough not to be overlooked. Adultery isn't one of them. At least by a person not hurt by the bad behavior.
As a cliche I can say that steel is forged in fire, and growing up involves going through bad times and coming out the other side a better person. It remains to be seen how his story comes out.
But for the US Open Golf, I think he will have up and down rounds, but the nature of the US Open is that no one runs away from the pack..it's too hard to score. So Tiger could well be in contention come Sunday.
The key is whether he improves his concentration, and has the killer instinct needed to close the deal.
Probably some "noname" will come from the pack and win it by default.
I'll definitely be watching either way.

If his drives start hitting the fairway he will finish among the leaders

What I hate about the media and public is they love to look into people's private life. Poor Tiger, he was not well trained in hiding his love affairs.

I'm not really a golf fan - I played a bit with my father to keep him company - but the game is too tough for the casual player to really enjoy playing and not really a spectator sport.
But Tiger Woods does seem to have a huge following in the US - where the cult of the sports personality is very much alive and well, built up by an insatiable sports media that loves doing the "profile piece".
I think that the biggest problem for Tiger is coming to terms with the fact that he is not a "special breed" after all - and that he will be held accountable for his personal failings both on the course and in his private life.
For a long time he was surrounded by a personal entourage that shielded him from that personal responsibility, and that told him he was special and he could do anything. It must be hard for ANYONE to remain balanced in that lifestyle.
The most remarkable thing for me is to watch Tiger Woods struggle to come to terms with a bad shot or a bad round. His petulant behaviour when faced with an error is like watching a small child.
Woods has been exceptional for so long - that he seems to sulk and pout his way along the course now - merely because he his now just playing at top 25 level rather than actually winning tournaments.
Tiger needs to have a lot of personal strength now - or he could become the next Michael Jackson someone that was loved and hated in equal measure by the public - a very tragic figure indeed.

I agree Gooner, he'll have a character test from now on in.
His golfing test will be an easier one to pass!!
In fact, right now he's in with a 66, sitting a -1, in third place. The leader just made the turn at -5, and will be extremely lucky to make it in with that score intact.
The guy has a special talent for golf, now if he can turn his skills to life lessons, I'll be very happy for him.
