Well said!! I totally agree. Before I add a program, I try to find out who is promoting it and who is not. I read reviews about it and see what the online casino watch dogs are saying about it. Even then, I will sometimes wait and see how it works out for other affiliates before I promote it.

I always try to stick to well known names, and always research the copmpany I will be promoting before I sign-up.

After all I wouldn't want to recommend anything to my visitors that I wouldn't be willing to join myself.

Trust is another key point, even with other webmasters.

I posted these in another thread weeks back, but wanted them here as well.

Building a new site from scratch.

a) Plan website structure/purpose on paper (google 'site planner')
b) Research competitors
c) Sign up for newsletter for things you need/want to learn
d) Find niche - check your stats to see what users are typing to find you.
e) Utilize the following: Dreamweaver, MySQL, Photoshop, CSS (view videos on internet)
f) SEO tool (view videos on youtube)
- Word tracker has 7 free videos on SEO/Internet marketing
- Web CEO is helpful

g) Tutorials - SEO, HTML, PHP (find videos)
h) Use forms to collect data from users
i) Tools I use: OneNote, Filezilla
j) XML - (data source) use it to place content for users to search
k) Use the latest technology: Spry, AJAX, GEO targeting, etc.

Shaun is absolutely correct! The GPWA is by far in a league of its own when it comes to its community members, everybody here is always willing to help out and offer advice which is brilliant for new affiliates and old affiliates a like.

New affiliates shouldn't worry to much about how their website layout looks, flashy looking sites aren't always the best.
The key to having a good site is the content, potential players don't visit your casino portal because the site looks better than the next. Its all about the content and how much useful content you can provide the player. I'm not trying to say you need to sell the network but highlight the important factors, for example payment options, withdrawal methods and types of games that they can play!

You want your viewers to trust you, be as friendly as you can. In saying that offer your email address for players to email you if they have any doubts about the programs they are about to sign up too.

I'd add this, too:
Learn HTML and some programming language (like php, or java and use jsp, or anything else). It's much easier to write clean code in a text editor. Also, MySQL is best used with a programming language (I use it with PHP). It's much easier to update a site when all data is in a database. It's much easier to optimize the site layout this way.
Do experiments, try out new things when you're coding. It's easier to learn that way (do these experiments on your own pc first, not on a published site).

W3schools has some great basic tutorials on these topics.

Be careful when using AJAX, especially when you're using it for displaying content search engines should find.
Make it compatible with browsers that don't have AJAX support, otherwise search engines may not be able to index that content. jQuery can be used very nicely to achieve this.

Gotta say this is some really good advice. I can imagine the worst thing is when people learn how to use dreamweaver, but don't know exactly why it does things, then if it doesn't show exactly as it should, you can't look at the code and see where it went wrong.

If you do decide to use dreamweaver though, I would suggest playing around with it a lot. You can find a lot of dreamweaver tutorials on the net which will give you step by step instructions on how to make the most of the tools. It's actually a pretty powerful program and for those people who do know how to hand code, can make things much faster, providing you know how to use it.

If anyone needs any coding help, dreamweaver help etc, please let me know.
I also seem to have a knack for setting up apache web servers, even though I've never actually done one myself (just ask GamTrak).

Renee saved my sanity one evening!

I had the most inept technical support person at my web host that I've ever seen, but I figured it out with Renee's awesome troubleshooting and logic skills.

I would definately recommend experimenting with dreamweaver way before you need to use it because it was a steep learning curve for me and I like to think that I'm tech savy. hehe I should have learned it 10 years ago, but I was stuck on the microsoft products!!!

I was just recently turned on to WordPress by a peer (thank you Alex) and I was floored to see how easy it made eveything that took me years to learn and do the hard way. It's like when windows first came out with the point and click and all the DOS/dBASE skills were no longer needed.

That fantascico thingy is a wonderful tool also. I only wish I had listened to the wordpress buzz years ago, but then again I would have not learned to do it the manual way.
