Technically, I am a poker player too ... but I haven't played online in 5 years.
Ehmm, I don't believe that numbers at all. Poker is really going down in Russia, maybe it was like that 4 years ago...
Here you can see number of searches for "online poker" in Yandex search engine: http://take.ms/Kwlov. The numbers are just going down tbh, I know that as I speak a lot with Russian affiliates who work in Poker.

Can't say I am surprised. I always bump into players from Russia/Ukraine on the virtual felt.
Maybe it's because they tend more and more to play poker with friends at home the traditional way
Oh yeah, there are terrible affiliates who give like 70-80% cashback/refback to their poker players, no idea what they live off, it's just weird. But! They don't live long.
It was pretty competitive, but now, because poker is not so popular anymore, only top 5 best affiliates are still on the market, less of those "cutting each other's throat".
It was also because of good CPA deals and currency rate, as for people in Russia $300-$500 is really good money to live off now.
