Default Twitter will allow users to tip "creators" using Bitcoin

Today, Twitter announced it will now allow users to tip their favorite creators on the social network using bitcoin via the Strike wallet app.

Twitter introduced tipping as a test feature back in May as a way to experiment with helping creators earn payments from their followers for the content they post on Twitter. The Tips feature will roll out globally to all Apple iOS users this week and will become available for Android users in the coming weeks.

    From CNBC:

Previously, users could tip with fiat currency using more traditional payment services such as Square’s Cash app and PayPal’s Venmo. Twitter will integrate the Strike bitcoin lighting wallet service so creators can receive bitcoin tips. The company will also allow users to add their bitcoin address to send and receive these cryptocurrency tips.

Twitter does not take a cut of any money sent through its Tips feature.

The integration of bitcoin to Twitter’s tip feature is hardly surprising considering CEO Jack Dorsey is one of the most vocal supporters of the cryptocurrency.

In just the past few months, Dorsey has tweeted that he is trying his hand at bitcoin mining. He said he doesn’t think there is anything more important to work on than bitcoin and he has even said that his hope is bitcoin will bring about world peace.

"and he has even said that his hope is bitcoin will bring about world peace"

It gets funnier once you read the article referring to the quoted text.

As a hodler, I welcome Jack Dorsey's normalisation of Bitcoin by introducing it as a mainstream payment method to the circa 350 million + monthly Twitter users. As an aside, when there is a method of paying on a platform, people will always find something to sell.

This is a reddit feature, where it is more or less used. At reddit it works like pressing "thanks" here on forum, but you send some micropayment along with that. I do not think it is a gamechanger.

I do not see anything funny in the article or how BTC has to bring peace. Bitcoin - if succeeds - will make world very harsh place, because the wealth will be even more concentrated. I do not see how twitter or internet micropayments can save the world. It is the opposite. Those "bread and games" systems seem like that the plebs has some coins for playing and sending it around and the wealthy ones can play the big game. In the end this is fine, because people do not kill each other. But nothing that can be celebrated by people in batik t-shirts.

Agree with "tufty". This will open a can of worms and and there will be lots being sold of all sorts. Not sure such a great idea.

Admittedly, I spend entirely too much time reading Reddit on a weekly basis.

I also moderate some subs on Reddit.

Never once have I seen a tip system implemented, nor the ability to implement one in the Moderator Panels, nor in the User Settings.

I believe you are mistaken (the alternative being that I am blind).

I also use Reddit quite often and even right now checked it and din't find this feature..
About the Twitter I think that's a good move for crypto niche. Why not? But I saw a few negative comments here. Could you explain why do you think that this is not a good idea? Will be very interesting to read.

This is an absolutely ridiculous move by Twitter and it will cause a lot of controversy. What will they come up with next for more money.

r/bch is using it with BCH, I personally got few dollars, which is nice, because they are perfectly anonymous

in the past this was used in r/bitcoin too, but tat fees... well after taproot and LN they will come with this feature once again

it is used in many other shitcoin subs, like at iota i think

i personally do not think this will affect anything substantial, bitcoin is the future reserve currency and the tips can be easily done in stablecoins, which makes most sense to users and micropayments will likely stay under the radar

but i am skeptical that the gig economy and crypto; it makes no sense, nobody needs decentralized payments where there is no pressure against it

ok, if tufty is right, people will something over twitter.. with bitcoin... which means they connect their address with their defacto identity... then either it will not work and it makes no sense, or twitter will have to be regulated as any other financial institution and once they are, they can normal fiat accounts and normal KYC

    but whatever
