Exclamation Two large earthquakes felt in Wellington, Invercargill

    Hello,

I'm starting to wonder what it is with this weird and wild weather all throughout the world these days. I can't believe that there are more earthquakes now in New Zealand.

Those New Zealand quakes are not big ones for the area and have caused minimal damage.
There are about 1,500 of these sized quakes (Magnitude 5) around the world every year. the news is just getting better at reporting them.

And for guidance - the NZ quakes are tiny compared to the Mexico quake.

NZ at 5.1 and Mexico a 7.1 might sound similar - but the Richter Scale a logarithmic-10 scale.
This means that each complete 1.0 in Richter size is actually 31.6 times stronger.

So as the Mexican was 2.0 bigger - it actually means 31.6 x 31.6 = about 1,000 times stronger in Mexico.

    Wikipedia has a good guide : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richter_magnitude_scale

As for the increase in hurricanes and other wild weather you can blame that on global warming (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming). And no it's not god punishing everybody for the legalization of gay marriage and transgender rights.
