    Default Universal Basic Income

We may see such a thing in our lifetimes. It is where each individual receives enough money to live.

    It would erase poverty.

UBI does NOT promise that every individual will receive enough money to live well.

Currently, the welfare state provides handouts to those that cannot provide for themselves - paid by those paying taxes.
If we move to a UBI then EVERYONE will be paid equally - but the payments will be less on average. It's basic maths.

Once you get into the details ... UBI is not a utopia ...

UBI - Is that not the peasants and kings system? You do what we say and well keep you alive. Why people want to remove incentive to better themselves I never understand.

As far as erasing poverty, the US spent trillions fighting poverty, only to make it into a lifestyle and increase the number of people relying on the Government... Ben Franklin had it right in the 1700's

In the USA this is unthinkable. Already now, many people need two, three or four jobs to survive. It is pure capitalism. No candidate from the Republicans will ever promote that, and any Democrat will lose the votes of the Independent with that idea.

In Europe the situation is different. Tests in Finnland with universal basic income were successful. Reasons for that could be, that the people from Finnland are the most educated people in Europe as studies proves and they have not that immigration problem as other countries have.

In Germany there is already an universal basic income, but it is not unconditional. Everyone, with or without a job receives at least 416 Euro, also the costs for the rent on a appropriate level. The same with the heating costs. This also approximately applies to pensioners. It is the so called minimum subsistence level.

The problem is, immigrants without working or paying one Cent taxes receives also that money for an unlimited time, even when they are only 18 or 30 years old. If you have a family with parents and 4 children, then the tax payers have to pay several thousand Euro for only that family every month.

Yes, of course, you are absolutely correct, Leopold, life is becoming ever so difficult and the cost of living and petrol is also going up, amongst other things too, unfortunately. The global economy of the world is also very demanding and we all need to find a way to play our part and keep on helping each other out at all times. Even paying your taxes now is a lot more expensive than it was just 2 years ago. It's absolutely unbelievable.

It would erase nothing. Inflation would do it's work.

People like to compete and always want to win. Doesn't matter if it's about google rankings, playing cards, earning money, having friends, being funny, being smart, being beautiful, telling stories, visted the most countries, et cetera. The more you win, the better you feel.

Life is one big game and the capitalist system is doing what we like.
You're in the gambling industry, capitalism at it's best (or worst, depends how you view it) so you should know.
