Default Newbie help - can I promote sportsbetting in British Columbia?

    Hi,

Does anyone know if you are breaking BC law, if you promote a(n online) gambling service, if you are an affiliate in BC?

I know someone with a BC website, that wants to promote sports-betting - with a link to the sports-betting website on their travel site - but they are wondering if there is any legal fallout (for the affiliate)?

Obviously the links will take you FROM the travel site TO the gambling site - and bets etc take place on the gambling site's servers - but is there a problem for the affiliate?

I'm a newbie here - so any help appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Devilish

I think you'd better keep away from them for safety

While I've never heard of an affiliate being charged or prosecuted for advertising online casinos in any Canadian province I would suggest discussing this with a lawyer just to be safe. Since BC has gone live with their provincially run casino, who knows what the government will think is acceptable.

I do know that there are companies operating out of Vancouver that operate online gaming sites but they tend to not accept Canadian players at their properties.

I'm also certain there are many Canadian affiliates who reside in BC and like I already said, none have been prosecuted to date.

I live in Ontario, and have never heard of anything like this in this part of the woods either.
Ontario is the next province to run a govenment online gaming site, and is supposed to come online next year.
I have many contacts here as well who are gaming affiliates that have never had an issue.
From what I understand, the main issue is if you run (aka have servers) that host an online gaming site, that is where you can get in trouble.... Unless in Kanawake in Quebec.... But the French do things a bit differently....LoL
