Question What do you do with closed affiliate program

    Hi all
I have a question, about what do you do with reviews about casinos, which affiliate program is closed?
I mean do you write a message that this casino is blocked and hide affiliate links or you redirect traffic. Share pls oppinions according to your experience

Usually add a message that is is closed or has pulled out of the market or whatever. Brands can always be sold and come back so don't bin your content entirely.

Can also create a specific section for closed sites and actually make the content useful, e.g. https://www.latestbettingoffers.co.uk/closed-sites/

As I see you also hide affiliate links from the closed casinos.
But, maybe we should leave links and redirect them using TDS or it will be a bad signal to users, cause they are not getting what they are looking for?

In the actual reviews I output a message at the top as to why they are closed / have left the market / are not recommended and then link to a relevant page for other options / bonuses.

I usually keep the content. Depending on if the casino is closed or just the affiliate program I use different methods.

If they closed down the casino it gets mentioned at the top and the bottom of the article.
Do they close the affiliate program but the casino keeps running? Usually I keep the review but put it with banners of other casino's and remove their links.

There are a number of other discussions on this subject, even a few in recent months.

Like others, I think "it depends".

If you are in a hurry, or just don't have the time for a rework of the pages, removing or changing etc, change the destination link to an operator you will get paid for.

If you use a visit/brandx.html or a go/brandx.php file, change the brandx.page to now go to brand Y instead. Sure someone might read the content and expect to land on brand x, but you ain't getting paid by X so at least on the odd chance the person does convert at brand Y you salvaged the visitor. If not, see above, you ain't getting paid by brand X anyway.

Similar stance if using htaccess redirects, easy affiliate links or any other plug-in or a proprietary method.

Using that method, you can change ALL traffic to that brand almost immediately until you have a chance to use a different method, like removing the outgoing link and keeping the review, recommending other brands as better, changing any other creatives or text links throughout the site that also link to brand x, etc etc etc.

I usually re-work the page somewhat and try to point visitors to other brands, so far this has proven to be a good practice.
Most such pages still have traffic, potentially convertable traffic, so steering them towards other brands is definitely doable.

I think the skyscraper technique could be useful in this type of situations. What I would do is redirect the said closed affiliate pages to point towards my online casinos page which I actually want to rank high since it's a place where I can negotiate a good deal with certain operators by offering top positions etc. Therefore, merging pages could be a solution which does little damage to user experience and represents a logical SEO solution from my point of view.

I'll just redirect it elsewhere instead of letting it go to waste.

Usually in my niche, if a company has definitively closed, I try to redirect traffic to a page with a full list of other affiliate brands. So that the visitor doesn't disappear and there is still a chance to convert him.

But I try to do it with the help of 302-redirect, in case the company will be bought by someone or will resume its activity again.

For affiliate programs they are indicated as closed and removed from any lists. They can still be searched. Links removed.
