What social networks do you use on a regular basis?

The early fad stage of social networks has mostly passed. It's still early, and I'm betting there are lots of changes to come, but after a few years the social network space is not quite as immature as it was before.

So, for this week's poll, share which of the major social networks you actively participate in today. And in a post tell us how your use of social networks has changed over time. Do you use the same or different networks more now? Do you use social networks in different ways now than you did when you first became aware of them? Do they matter to you from a business perspective? From a personal perspective?

I am on Facebook a few hours per day, second place is twitter and third google+.

I rarely use my own personal Facebook anymore. It's turned to a place of people saying what they are eating, that they are running late, have the best gf/bf in the world, bragging or sharing pictures of words of wisdom and cute dogs/cats. I prefer twitter and think Google+ is slowly growing in numbers.

I used to use Facebook a great deal, and LinkedIn only every once in a blue moon. That has switched around almost completely for me. I use LinkedIn to find folks in the industry, and with the currently large network I have, and the fact that on LinkedIn I can see connections out a couple levels, means if I search for folks in a particular role in a particular company, that process works. Where Facebook really only shows you information about people who are direct friends, it is not nearly as useful to me from a business perspective. Plus on LinkedIn I can generally gain a good understanding of someone's business background from their page, even when I am not connected to them directly, and on Facebook it is frequently very difficult to get that understanding, even when they are a direct friend.

But in terms of fan pages on Facebook, I've continued to place focus there, just much less so on my personal Facebook page. So the GPWA (www.facebook.com/TheGPWA) now has over 14,000, the APCW (www.facebook.com/TheAPCW) has about 10,000 fans, and Gaming Meets (www.facebook.com/GamingMeets) has over 7,000 fans.

Twitter, I don't use a lot personally, but still use it heavily from a business perspective in the sense that we gather pretty much every tweet published by a company in the gaming industry, and aggregate them together as content. For example, tweets from GPWA sponsor affiliate programs are displayed on the GPWA sponsor program page, and the most recent tweets from all sponsor programs are displayed on the GPWA home page.

In my opinion the poll is flawed since the so-called social networks do NOT include a single forum.

The above listed "social networks" just took what forums had been doing for many years and changed their formats, yet the media decided that the exchange of information the way a forum does can ONLY be counted as a social network if they came along after myspace and facebook and do not use forum software.

There is actually MORE social interaction on a forum then there is on Facebook.

For REAL social interaction, I go sit down with HUMANS and SPEAK to them, instead of reading something, posting something and waiting for responses.

No Rick - there isn't - at least not that I've seen and I still use forums a bit.

I know much more about my Facebook friends - living in different cities, different countries, even those in different countries that I have never met - than I do via a forum. And I would use that fact to justify the statement that facebook does equal better social interaction.

I agree with TheGooner. There is much more activity on Facebook. Most forums are dying. And people start using Facebook Groups more and more.

wow, you know RenRen, means you are somehow know China than others here. Not realy use renren to promote...China main throughout internet is under very restrict investigation by both moderator and internet police. Any thing relate to gambling, or promote gambling will be deleted. In year 2010, gambling related post has avg lifespan of 30 seconds. My payment gateway company account mgr even received call from police after post " we accept any kinds of client to be our merchant, esp online entertainment biz welcome"

I had one account at RenRen 2 years ago, but now I am not using it any more. the hottest in China today is WeChat. there is a survey, almost 90% of "small pieces of time, i.e. 0.5-3 minutes", are occupied by WeChat, Weibo(something like twitter) is no longer popular.

the trend is very obvious, Kaixin001/RenRen-->Weibo-->WeChat.

BBS/Forum marketing is still sounds, but less effective.

But if you know some street punks, and they are willing make money, you can make money. But today in China, the Credit System is still play major role.

that's why we take BTC, and I also believe , if one day all the government ban BTC like they ban drug, that will real begin of BTC.
