Question What type of printer(s) do you have?

I recently needed to buy a new printer, so I have printers on my mind.

For this week's poll I ask what type of printer(s) you have at home. Besides voting in the poll, please share details in a post.

Personally, I had an old black and while Lexmark laser printer. Old enough that the toner was no longer readily available. So, I upgraded to a multi-function color laser printer that also had a built in scanner (an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301fdw). Before I didn't have a scanner at home, and walked a quarter mile to the office to use the fancy printer with a scanner there. While it is very convenient to have a scanner at home, I no longer have that ready-made excuse to take a walk into the office. Although I still go into the office for some printing, since my home printer only handles letter-size paper. The fancy printer in the office can both print and scan 12"x18" sheets and can produce saddle stitched booklets.

Long, long ago, I used to have a black and white dot matrix printer at home. We might be talking a couple decades ago.

What I'm most curious about though, is whether anyone here has a 3D printer, and experiences using one.

My first printer was a £200 Lexmark from PC world. Big mistake because I could not afford the ink for it.

In recent years I had an Epson l210 that only lasted a year and a bit - The ink kept drying up!

3 Years ago I had a fancy cannon printer with external ink and built in scanner - The colour ink would never initialise properly. An engineer came out and got it working after trying another 2 new colour cartridges. A year later - just out of grantee, the same thing happened with the colour cartridge. I took it to a back street shop to see if they could get it to recognise the colour cartridge. They only wanted to charge me for new overpriced cartridges (this printer has external ink pots). I told them not to bother and I picked it back up. When I got home I opened the printer up and found out the shop had swopped my (like new) scanner bed for some old crap!!

Now my current printer is a Brother DCP-T7200W which has worked great for the last 2 years.

As for 3D printers..... I bought a Vocano branded one with duel head off Ali Express for $250-$300. I never actually got it, because what I did not know at the time was that I needed an import license! (Thailand) That was a complete nightmare going back and forth with DHL and customs ect. I lost my money in the end and got no printer.

I ended up buying an Ender3 from Bangkok off someone who had the means to import them. That has been great up until last December and I printed tons of stuff with PLA, like egg cups, printer extras, burger press, coin holders ect. Unfortunately everything I printed has now disintegrated in to oily puddles due to the climate here. I decided to buy a load of PetG filament last December only to find out that my printer no longer works! I bought a new 8bit screen - that did not work. I ordered a new motherboard but got sent the wrong one. It seemed like I can not buy an 8bit board anywhere, so I bought a 32bit screen and an updated 32bit board. Unfortunately my new 32bit board only beeps and can not boot up - the screen lights up though.

Used to use nothing but HP years ago but Cannon now makes decent printers and usually they and the ink is cheaper.

I don't need to print very often so stick with a cheaper cannon 2500 series, currently a MG2522. Although this is a 2 cartridge 1 black 1 color printer, it allows for greyscale (black only) printing so you can usually get away with an almost empty color cartridge and only have to replace the black one.

Obviously this only works if you mostly just print invoices or receipts etc less often and don't need the color presentation.

No matter what printer you own, sure enough the cartridge will ALWAYS run out of ink when you least expect it and you just have to print something. In those cases most printers allow you to change the print to a pdf, and voila you can save the pdf and print it after you get more ink if needed.

I also have a better cannon workforce printer that I use for scanning when needed, resolution is much better on it, but that one always gave me trouble trying to print black only, hence why I started using a more inexpensive model for the occasional print.

I don't currently own a printer. I got tired of buying printers, both expensive and cheap, having them sit unused on my desk for weeks, and then finding that they wouldn't work when I finally needed them (a technician explained that the problem was likely due to the lack of use).

There's a photo studio near my house where I can print at a very low cost. It has been the perfect solution and has put an end to my printing headaches.

Bought a wireless HP printer a couple of years ago having used a Cannon wired printer for years. Main reason for the change was due to kids wanting to use it for school work and having a wireless option allowed them to access the printer themselves rather than coming and asking me to print it for them.

Very impressed overall, expensive on ink but that's to be expected - although I have educated the kids that everything doesn't need to be printed in the very best quality setting every time!

My last few printers have all been HP but I won't be buying from them next time. I think they have the worst customer service in the world.

Most printing these days is for kids projects and things like that, I rarely need to print anything for work these days but I don't have an option to print elsewhere so I still need a printer for those rare occasions.
