Why is it so hard to get in touch with affiliate managers nowadays?

10 years ago I used to be a pretty big affiliate and worked together with around 100 different brands. All affiliate managers were very easy to contact and they always answered pretty quick and were a good help. Now I started all over but what happened in the last 10 years?

I experience it very hard nowadays to get in touch with an affiliate manager or get an account approved. The old big brands i used to work with are the worst now it seems, they don't reply, don't react on Skype, its like they don't want us to promote them anymore.

Is this only my experience or do you also experience this?

My experience has been good, I can usually reach / conversate with my managers in a timely manner. There has been a lot of changes to the industry, regulations tightening up somewhat. I've been involved with the gaming industry for almost 5 years now.. Almost entirely providing PPC traffic. From when I started and vs. today seems like a big difference.

I would keep reaching out to brands, then promote and work with the people you like and that are easy to reach. There are tons!

I know it has been fairly easy to lock in descent deals after showing ppc campaigns and results on other affiliate platforms, maybe they focus on that kind of traffic lately.

What kind of traffic do you refer? I am trying to expand my sources, as it is annoying when accounts go down.

It's the same experience for me and I know that it can be really annoying and frustrating. I feel your pain. It seems that more casinos are going rogue and are throwing both their affiliates and players into the fire.

I think over time many programs have forgotten that we are actually the client. They now see it as our privilege to work with them.

The bigger brands are indeed the worst, you often only hear from them for compliance or if they decided to suspend/close your account.

The churn rate of affiliate managers, particularly with smaller programs, is so high that often I've not even met an affiliate manager before they've moved on. This for me is part of the communication issue as the level of personal relationship is generally poor.

I guess affiliate management is less about marketing now and more about compliance, which demands a different type of person I guess. Shame really.

It takes some time for them to get used to a program after joining that company. As soon as they got used to it, they're looking for their next "challenge". As soon as they found one, they care less about their current challenge.

Yeah, it is one of the most annoying parts. I sometimes think: wow, he's been there for half a year, he's not an aff manager, he's the owner

Thank you all for your replies.. So it seems to be common nowadays. I understand that if you are in the top of the rankings things will be different but in the old days good affiliate managers were investing time in helping small affiliates to grow, and in return the affiliate would stay loyal to that particular brand. It goes both ways i think.

The bigger a company becomes, the more possibility of it becoming more greedy for money, which in turn makes them grow corrupt and start closing accounts and stealing. There's nothing stopping them from even shafting super affiliates.

mostly due to cost, affiliate mangers dont want to spend hours with an affiliate that makes them perhaps 50 euros a month, the same reason for quotas , they all want good sized affiliates.,

I haven't experienced this. The programs, I have signed up for, has always contacted me within a few days on Skype or mail.

I've experienced this. Some affiliate managers don't respond at all. We've tried to contact them several times per several contact channels but didn't manage to reach them.

It depends on the brand, how big they are and what their goals are. Many affiliate managers' goals are to gather mass with the affiliate and achieve their KPI, and not think about the relationship with the affiliates.
