    Default William Hill

Just been announced in the UK that William Hill is closing 700 shops with 4,500 jobs at risk.

What kind of impact to you anticipate this having for affiliates? Logically they will need affiliates more than ever now, but you never know in this industry.

Can't really connect the two save to say that they'll have more of a focus online. The wider issue at play is the fact that this has come about on the back of a well organised political campaign seeking the demise of the non-landbased casino gambling industry. FOBTs were the first target and online is next. Affiliates are an easy scapegoat to offer out to those currently clamouring for the industry's head on both sides of the aisle

well, they have USA sportsbooks etc, so shifting resources from B&M in uk to online in US (for example) may be a lot more profitable.

That is shocking news! UK commercial rent and rates is really high, though, so I'm sure the FOBTs situation only added to the pressure.

    1. They are unable to restart affiliate business with their reputation, they were stealing too much (everything) for too long; even if they started to behave like bet365 (=100% fair), it would take them many years to build the trust; meanwhile the market will be elsewhere

    2. My feeling is that in business you either climb up or you go down. They go down. They will not succeed anywhere. They were not able to do it when they had the advantage, now they are deep in ****. Watch them falling down and then just the brand will remain and will be bought by competition like oldschool UK automobile manufacturers.

So many sponsors don't realize how important it is to have a good reputation in the affiliate industry. They cheat, steal, lie, fudge the statistical & commission reports, lower the affiliate commission percentages, close affiliate accounts, etc, thinking that affiliates don't share information, and that their actions won't affect the program, but then slowly but surely karma kicks the rogue sponsor where it hurts the most. The rogue sponsor starts sending out emails, posting on forums and trying to reconnect with the affiliate community, but it's way too late.

I do not think they really try or care that much.
    The problem is this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princi...3agent_problem

The corporations where management and ownership is divided have the problem described above. The managers want to maximise their revenue.
So when the company is still in good condition, they squeeze as much as they can, to make the short term profits but long term loses or even bankruptcies. Since their deals are typically something like bonuses from stock hikes, their goal is the short term stock appreciation. And this is the reason why we all are screwed. They can and do cut the affiliate deals, because they will get short term revenue boost. Then they cash out extremely high bonuses and they do not care anymore.

I believe this and only this is why we all were ass-*****. Compare it with bet365, still a honest company in such **** environment. Why? Because the owners are the managers. They care about overall and long term profit. Same bovada and big US offshores. Same SIA.

100% right. William Hill - this is big network with many subsidiaries companies. They don't have one owner. All split between many shareholders, managers e.t.c. - that have the main target - pick money to they own pockets. They don't take care about company future on are long run. All what they need is they own bonuses on = short run results. If they need to increase financial results in this year for they bonuses - they may cut off all affiliates without any problems.

i remember this story about 5 or 6 years ago. Between William Hill main office and they affiliate / playtech division is Israel. Financial Times wrote about this. Very unclear story. After reading i understand only one: stealing inside this company.

This is systemic problem of all parts of economy. All economic problems have roots in this. And as society moves on the problems will be just bigger. Not even blockchain/smart contracts will solve this (although smart contracts can solve the affiliate industry&revenue share).

I agree, program difficult to trust so either is cpa or nothing with them. Often they say they can do cpa then after sending many emails back and forth they eventually say they can't and only do revenue share.
I also like your comparison with the UK automobile manufacturers.

Another problem is when casino operators suddenly shut down (some without even giving any notice in advance of it happening) and take our hard earned money along with them
