MMM (27 January 2022)
I've recently upgraded to Windows 11 and it hasn't been the best experience. It's okay, but looking back at Windows 10, it was more stable and smooth to use. It seems that every now and then when Windows have an update, they seem to make matters worse for their users.

I have been running a few installs as VM's but those are based on one of the original release iso's and have not had much time to spend very much time using them.
I have not seen many issues but entry level testing, my biggest issue is often the remote session with stop responding and I have to terminal back in again. I am using these on a VM server not with a windows host, and not using video or other hardware passthrough so I expected a bit of sluggishness in the early days.
I do plan on getting a more recent install soon and seeing what has been improved performance wise.

It's not as smooth as Windows 10 but they should fix the teething issues in the next few updates. Not much noticeable difference tbh
I always like to stick to old school a few years before i change.. I remebher the old me edition days lol
New editions of Windows are always pretty bad for a couple of years before they work out a lot of issues. I pretty much try to ride an operating system until the wheels fall off. I would still be using Windows XP if it had a browser that could handle WebGL reliably.

In my opinion it is not that new versions of windows are "bad" per se, but it is more of the time factor often needed for the "learning curve".
The exception to that was Windows Me, as that was based on a more flawed code base and they were trying far too hard to stay with the backwards compatibility until the game and application developers caught up. (IMO once the dos based portion was completely gone this was no longer as much of a problem) They should have just forced the Windows 2000 code base sooner, which they eventually did later as it was far more stable since it was based on NT.
I agree that there may be reasons to not necessarily go forward with Win 11 just yet. Those who do software development possibly could see issues for a certain time frame depending on what kind of development they do.
Microsoft has clearly stated the initial release of Windows 11 was scheduled for mid 2022https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...indows-11-21h2we are advancing the pace of the rollout faster than we originally announced and entering the final phase of availability for Windows 11 ahead of our initial plan of mid-2022.
The majority of big issues people are posting about, have more to do with upgrading from 10 to 11, the hardware requirements, the issues they see after an upgrade.
Some early reports about chrome having issues (3rd party vendor) as well as some other applications not exactly performing as expected, leaving it up to those software companies to catch up.
Now the issues some are experiencing with color rendering or the search not working as it should are likely issues that are most likely related to certain hardware or driver issue that will be worked out once more testing and feedback is provided. The following slashdot article covered a few of the issues I have seen posted about the most.

The ssd performance drop seems the most troubling, as that appears to possibly be more compelling that something kernal level could be at fault, unless that is also driver related.

Great question!
I didn't upgrade to Windows 11 - and probably will never upgrade.
If Windows 10 - after X years will stop functioning (like Windows XP & 7 had) and it will not receive updates, security patches and so on. I'll switch to Linux (probably Debian or Ubuntu).

No I've had a couple of prompts but declined to upgrade..I'll wait it out a bit I think (i don't see a reason to upgrade and want to avoid issues for now)
I've updated to Windows 11!
The controls are pretty much the same, but the menu effects that come up when you right-click are cooler now!
I'm glad I updated, because it's so much easier to use, and it's a breath of fresh air!
I am done with all these updates. Whether Windows or Mac I will just hang back and not update where possible. Too many issues and impacts on programs and apps. Even last Mac update has negatively impacted Dropbox which for us is a big deal.
