Would a Smoking Ban Hurt Casinos?

Just wondered what everyone else thought about this. I think it would anger some customers, but I believe the majority of customers are non-smokers, so business would still be fine. As for smokers, I guess it would be a case of which addiction is stronger.

Well over here the non smoking side off things has certainly seen a decline in offline Bingo which has obviously seen a rise in online Bingo.

I guess the effect of anti-smoking will depend on the country in question - the penetration of other anti-smoking initiatives in the country.

IF casinos are not breaking new ground - that is to say if anti-smoking in restuarants and bars is already commonplace in the country - then it's unlikely to run into major resistance.

It's already occured in some countries - New Zealand - they had no choice due to existing anti-smoking legislation. According to our largest publically listed casino (Sky City Casino) there has been some anecdotal effect on high-rolling asian gamblers ... but overall takings are steady.

Smoking Ban doesn't hurt casinos, it hurts the casino gamblers instead. Smoke has been part of casino houses specially for the gamers for a relief and to lessen the pressure when they are playing.

the GM of MGM Detroit comment that they've found that banning smoking would reduce their revenues by nearly 40%, this was based on numbers from a smoking ban in Delaware.

I think a smoking ban would hurt.

Here in Florida the casino choices are very slim, and if they would suddenly ban smoking in the Tampa property I feel this would hurt their traffic greatly.

I don't think it would hurt to much. People are going to Gamble weather they smoke or not. It will be good for Online Gamblers, Sit at home have a smoke and a gamble.

In South Africa each casino has a smoking area section where you can play and smoke.

You could also smoke in the non smoking area, all depends how good you are.

I agree, a percentage of smokers if they can't play in a casino, will play at home and smoke to their hearts content.

I think the establishment should determine whether they are smoking or not smoking. I think a non-smoking casino would negatively affect business but a casino that opens up to non-smokers and goes non-smoking, might see some nice business from non-smokers.

The casino in Estonia has a little room which must be horrible to go into I am sure enetering the room would takes five years of your life, i always love dthe Grand Casino Barcelona the smoking area had the six huge roulette tables and 3 black jack tables and the atmosphere was the best ever.

But how nice is it to come and your clothing does not smell like a packet of smokes....
