Less is always more. For example, I always manually hardcode my affiliate trackers. Relying on heavy plugins for link management just adds unnecessary bloat to the DOM. Using standard rel="nofollow sponsored" and target="_blank" on clean HTML is the safest and fastest method. Keep active plugins to an absolute minimum for better Core Web Vitals.

Except when you have to change links, then you have to change them every single place they exist, instead of a single change in a single place. Missing one can lead to lost revenue.

Agreed you want to keep plugins to a minimum and always be aware of site speed, but using the proper plugins, and not having overlapping plugins, and not adding plugins just because you can is good practice.

BetterSearchReplace and Search Regex are both free WP plugins that can replace/update 1,000s of tracking links in a few minutes

Well yea, search and replace can also work. I will often use wp migrate lite when necessary, but this particular use case is for links, and using the correct plugin to help manage the links can be a huge help, and is not the overhead hit some may think when using the correct one.

One thing though, if you do perform a search and replace, (for links or other similar changes) you should also check your seo again. If using yoast, you might wanna throw the yoast helper in and reset the indexables. After use you can disable and just let it sit there deactivated if you like.

This will check all the post metas etc and will tell yoast to take another look at stuff like canonical URLs and structured data etc.

Not sure what rank math has, but surely they must also have a similar tool.

Spot on regarding database tools. Better Search Replace or direct SQL queries via phpMyAdmin are my go-to methods for bulk-updating affiliate links across thousands of posts in seconds, completely avoiding plugin bloat.
As for the SEO side-effects (like Yoast indexables or Rank Math cache), a quick database flush or running the plugin's built-in optimization tool right after handles it instantly.

My essentials are Rank Math for SEO, Code Snippets for PHP customizations, Redirection for managing URLs, GTranslate for multilingual sites, and the Elementor suite for design. However, it always depends on the type of site you run. Needs may vary.
