Default 1 site (project) vs several sites (projects)

From your own experience - what is better? Where you may have more chances for succeful? Concentrate on one site (project) vs several sites (projects)? From my point of view, if you concentrate on 1 site (poject) only you have more chances to success.

What is your points of view?

    Thank you.

p.s. i think, that my big probles as affiliates is, that all my affiliate life i tryed to manage several projects at one time. As affiliate i make very good money for my country, but i think, if all these years i concentrated for one project only, i had several times more income.

    Hello Moonlight Cat,

this is also my opinion. If you don't have a big team of co-workers, and if you don't want to work every day from sunrise to sunset, then it's really the best to concentrate on one project. You can contribute special ideas, and concentrating on one project also helps a very small or one-man-company to monitor efficiency.

Finally, in those circumstances, more success you achieve because adjusting and optimizing little things can be done faster and with a more creative spirit. Inspiration for design or content will be your faithful companion. You get the feeling, that the project is like your own child.

As an additional earnable reward for the ability of self-reflection you have enough time to ask yourself "What are the most beautiful things in the world?". The answer lies not far away, in the rambling, rough and stunning nature of Russia and in the cultural places of your country, where you can feel the breeze of thousand years history.

    Why always these negative attitude?
Come on, surround yourself with positive energy ... at least from time to time.

Would rather own a site like a super affiliate site like AskGamblers, or 10 mediocre sites?

I believe that 1 site is better than several. You can concentrate better on one project and have more chances to succed. Many projects require a big team of coworkers and of course too much time.
I tried to work in the past in many projects by myself but it was very dificult for me.

Moderators, please fix my mistake. Word: "several" in poll and thread title.

    Thank you.

Once you have one site perfected and making $ then use that to invest grow the team and do another, I will go up to 3 sites personally but like most things if i see an opportunity and i can handle the work load then I will do it.

I believe 1 might be a bit risky as you never know what will happen in the future in the ever changing Web landscape. So I tend to agree with wonderpunter with up to 3 just in case 1 goes down for some reason.

All eggs in one basket is risky but Google reward authority which takes a hell of a lot of effort for one site, let alone multiple sites. Great question and a growing dilemma I agree.

In my humble opinion you should rather do 1 thing right then 100 things half assed and half hear-ted.

Get 1 site up and running and performing well.

Throw all your efforts into that and once you have the success then bracnh out.

Too many things can dilute your effectiveness and your time can be better spent concentrating on your best chance of success,

I have one main site with a clear focus and geographical target. However, when doing a risk analysis on my business I identified one major risk:

    - legal changes concerning online gambling in the specific area, which are to be made in a year or two depending on political decisions.

In worst case, all my affiliate accounts would be reset in order to adapt to some sort of licensing system. In order to spread the risks I created more sites with additional focus areas (travel) and additional gambling sites with other geographical areas (.com).

I update these sites frequently, but not as often as my main site. Whatever can be said about SEO, it seems that if you add some fresh content every now and then and have a long term aim with a domain, it will do pretty good in terms of visitors and google placement in a year or two. So the first year with these additional sites, I pretty much just added content with almost no visitors.

So my advice would be: stick to a main site, but have some additional sites that you update from time to time (1 post per week = 104 posts per year = good content).

Single for me. I would liken each website to being a separate company or business in its own right, and you wouldn’t start 3 businesses at once would you?

I would agree with wonderpunter though - if you want to work on another site, which in most cases means focusing on another niche, you should not do so until the first site is absolutely perfected.

But I think you have to ask yourself, what is YOUR niche? By that I mean what do you know best? what do you enjoy best? What are you “the best” at? Once you find that you should put absolutely everything into it, no distractions, and become the number one authority.

I am always best intensively focusing on one project at a time. Then I can really get that site top rankings. i have some other backup, background type sites, but I only have 1-2 main sites as that's all i can really sustain without going mental.

I don`t think there is a definite answer to this question, even if I`m a "one site type of guy". Some people make good money with a large number of static websites.

What I can say is that if you`re dreaming about hitting it big, making big money and creating something special, one site is the way to go, put all your effort into building that one great thing. I don`t think you can achieve "greatness" otherwise.

I think, It takes a lot of effort to run one site rather than having many. One can work morning to night maintaining just one site....

Well, I have several sites and they take a huge amount of effort to maintain and keep up to date. Let alone adding new content all the time So, I am not 100% sure here which is the best way to go. All of my sites differ in their success and I suppose this depends on the competiveness in that particular niche. What having a few sites does give you that having one site alone does not is personal lessons and experience in SEO (kind of like split testing I suppose), and again, as mentioned above, you do not have all your eggs in one basket. I do sometimes wish I had three heads and three pairs of hands!

    Me too, especially that one

I'd always focus to build and improve one thing, otherwise I'd feel like I'm slathering my focus and energy on many sides, where not a single one is completely satisfying me.. It must be cause of my monogamous nature and passion and dedication to one thing!
