    Default 302 redirect SEO question

Did a 301 redirect as we work on the new server but realized I needed a 302 redirect and lost current rankings when I put the site back up on the new server and take off the 302 redirect will my rankings come back?

Yikes... It should go back if you put everything back how it was before. If it doesn't come back then you could always submit a reinclusion request to google through webmaster tools. In future you should have just updated the nameservers temporarily then switched them back to the original server after making the updates. Not sure why you would redirect anything.

302's are a typical technique used by blackhats temporarily on well ranking sites to make a quick buck and then swith back to 301's - at least they were in the past - and google knows it - 302's are unnecessary with 301's performing the same action so it makes no sense to use 302's.

Google will eventually penalise for them if they stay in place for too long.

As long as you use it for what its meant for and only temporarily its okay to use the if you have to, but just remember to run a program like Xenu to verify they are all removed.
