ADVICE ON COLOUR SET UP

I have been checking out differnt portals and see that alot of them have the same colours for the background. I wanted to use something different but am not sure thats the greatest idea. Do I dare to be different?
I know I need to go with something that's easy to read and that the banners will bring alot to the site. I don't want my site to look to busy. I am useing graey back ground with white and 2 different shades of pink. What do you think?
I hope to be online soon, like with in the week. (if godaddy can get their act together for some reason it won't let me online) Anyway I can't wait!!!!

Hi

I did some research on colors and how they effect the viewer a couple of years ago.

I will relate what I remember and take it with a grain of salt cause I might have remembered wrong

it seems to me that they said a bit of orange would tend to trigger a buy out of those that tend to buy things on a whim

lighter blue was a comfort color;

too much red was bad, too much black was bad, except as a background

gold gave impression of money (imagine that!)

thank you for responding. I'm thinking the pink might clash with my banners but I guess I'll see when I get on line. I have been working on this for ever!! lol Any more advice wold glady be taken!! Thanks

Hi Jeffey,

Yep, color definitely makes a BIG difference IMO. We recently switched from a green web site to our current blue and the results have been MUCH better. (we did change the layout a lot too though)

I am sure there must be some info online about colors and their effects on user emotions, I will have a look and if I find anything I will post it here.

I guess the nice thing about the this biz is it is relatively easy to change your look and feel if it does not work

Yes, I did a total rework on my site colours and added some extra banner space while at it
