I wonder why Google values a link that isn't even visible... i don't know how he got this links. It's also possible that he's the webmaster or he knows the webmasters or that he bought that link... But are perhaps hypothetical options

I have seen a number of bad things coming from College and High School servers and subnets so it is no surprise to hear of anyone placing hidden links in pages.
I am not saying it makes it right, just that it isn't a shock.

"Hm... hacked or some student webmaster earning extra money?"
One thing does not rule out the other.

True. It's dodgy anyway, like most of the brands at this website.
There are many edu sites that have some hacked pages and I agree, student+hacking doesn't rule one another.

Nice list of site links. It just goes to show what we're up against...
That top10site is ranking well for months, perhaps even more now...
The police is investigating the malicious activity regarding their website.

Whether this is a hacker, which "could" possibly mean worse issues for the universities where this takes place, or if it is being done by those given passwords and supposedly trusted with acting in a responsible manner on behalf of the university, it is clear that every university website (let alone all website owners worldwide) should scan and monitor their sites and pages more frequently for changes such as those detailed above.
It is clear that the link benefit system is flawed and Google and other engines should never give much value to any kind of link benefit to a gambling portal for links coming from a university site.
It's bad enough that university site webmasters are selling links to those offering the credit and school loan scams (often without the school's knowledge) this helps show how little any school pays much attention to their websites.
If the investigations turn out that this was a school employee selling or otherwise allowing the links they should certainly face closer scrutiny and possible other actions from their employer. If it ends up being students involved in the hacking, they should possibly be expelled, or at least sanctioned in some way.
In my opinion, my guess is that these links showed up on the website listed above in less than honorable ways, as is in most cases any time a gambling, binary, forex, drugs or other such links in similar categories shows up on university sites.
