Because the Canadians are no doubt still in mourning over the hockey game (and btw, wtg fellow Michigan State Spartan Ryan Miller!!), I'll defend Curling. It really is an interesting game, with a lot of strategy and skill involved. It's like a combination of snooker and chess, except it's played on ice. If you watch it for about 30 minutes, you'll get the hang of the game, and hooked on it.

It is a game, in all games there is skill. But are you going to call it a sport?

It is as much a sport as shooting a rifle is -- which is a sport in the summer games. Shooting requires a keen eye, demanding control over your nervous system and a great deal of skill. Curling requires a similar skill set, and more exertion and strategy.

Are the curling "athletes" apart of any professional curling team?

Curling is definitely a sport. Try sliding on ice while throwing a 40 lb rock at a target that's 140 feet away and with just the right weight and enough accuracy to place the rock exactly where you want it.

These guys and gals do it time and time again. The speed they throw take outs and such is amazing.

All of Canada's curlers are amateurs and have to qualify for the Olympics. China, Great Britain and many other nations select the best players in their countries and put them together as their national teams... we don't need to do that.

China's women's team actually trains in Canada several months each year and most nations send their teams here to compete because we have the best curlers in the world.

Ya, it's ironic... we train the Chinese team on our ice, using our coaches, so they can beat us at the Olympics. Canadians are just too darn nice!

I think we're okay with the current selection process. Our talent pool is awesome. There are at least 3 or 4 mens and/or womens teams that could do us proud at the games this year.

Martin looks to be well on his way to Gold.

The Bernard team did a good job in the trials and it looks like they're peaking at the right time in the games... they're beating Sweden 4-1 in the 6th as I write this.
