I agree with many colleagues at these points:

- Of course you can live very well working only on your websites, No DOUBT!
- 4 months is not enough time to achieve good search engine ranking,
- If you want to reach your goals faster you have to invest in advertising,
- If you have the skills and you like this business then you can get good results.

I respectfully suggest you do a little extra effort for several months: If you get a good job accept it, but working some extra hours in your projects online. After three or four months you can decide more clearly. Good luck and success for you!

thanks agian guys. On the search engine stuff, it has been online for about 9 months, not many backlinks, but google knows its there, about 10 good reviews up, and lots of facebook links here and there. Not much I know, but I have been ticking it over every now and then.

I do plan to advertise it when i get some cash - I was genuinely gonna get a trailer and drag it around sporting events. What you reckon?

I like it! I have business cards and flyers that I use. If you want to get a good deal on business cards, vista print has a special where you can get 250 cards for just shipping cost. They may have changed it but I think I just paid the shipping.

Last time I ordered cards I think all I paid was the shipping and they had Vista Prints domain in the back, not a bad trade out I think.

Presuming it is, that site doesn't rank at all currently, and the term 'free bets' is reasonably competitive, despite having relatively low player value (compared to other sports betting terms)

Personally, I think to rank for terms like 'free bets' then you need a reasonably large budget given what the sites ranking 1-3 are currently spending on links. Some of these sites do football league perimiter board advertising which can't be cheap. I personally believe you could get page 1 of G on a part-time basis for these terms, and you'd have to be smoking crack if you go full-time without having any previous experience of ranking a site (I'm presuming you haven't?)

Despite all the good advice given the world of online gaming has changed a lot as far google site rankings and programs is concerned.

Programs can steal your players when sold e.g.

Besides that a lot of bookies have a negative carryover so whenever you are in the hole your will not be making any money despite the traffic you send them also if a minimum player rule is in the T&C.

SEO and rankings

- Google is not that friendly anymore to the online gaming niche, you see more paid ads especially in the UK one needs to compete with that too......

- Those one pagers that rank for a lot of terms can drop your site from the first page.

- Sites need to have a certain age to "avoid" the Google SERP dance : one day you are on fist page the next you could be in the 100's.

Besides above the "free" traffic keywords probably will not attract the most loyal punters which means once your revenue has dried up from them the game is on to get new customers which requires ........ you get my point hopefully.

Last but not least running sites as a one man show is very risky once ill you will not get compensated. Let's face it if you want to know all coding, SEO, content writing it will probably overwhelming.

yes you're right its freebetcity - you should be out solving mysteries and fighting crime

and no you're wrong, i have a good money term on page one of google through hard work and quality content over one year, and very few links ( relatively). It doesn't make much money but has lot's of forum goers and a great community, but if someone types it (the term) and some related terms into google, we're there top of page 1.

A one-pager is a one-page domain that usually ranks high for a short period thanks to blackhat SEO techniques.
You often find that the first 10 sites listed on the first page of Google for perceived high value terms is packed full or these sort of sites.

It's a short-term play - and the site will quickly get penalised and banned - but will make money in the short term.

I like to talk about sites that I like and have value. If you google a keyphrase that you are targeting you should see some. Click Through the site, if they are all direct affiliate links and have no other pages you found one.

I've used Vista Print in the past as well for business cards and they were great. They do have the logo on the back, but it's not a bad tradeoff if you're looking for free business cards.

Looks like I may be a bit late to this party, but I'll throw my 2c in anyway...

Four months is plenty of time to get a niche site established and ranking if you're posting every day (not for any hollywood terms - stick to lower competition money keywords). Pick the right topic and it's also enough time to start making money, although whether it would be enough to live on would depend on how expensive your lifestyle is.

Personally if I was in your boat I would hedge my bets a little and either get a part time job (or one with flexible hours that you can scale up and down as needed) or go full time on the aff business, but offer services to make extra money (eg: content writing). To do this you could find clients on the forums or hunt around on the freelancer sites.

This will give you extra time to work on your sites, but also a regular income. There's nothing worse than working all month and having nothing to show for it.
