Rest in Peace, GPWA Jim

With a heavy heart, I make this post. This is one of the saddest days of my life. Yesterday my friend of 30 years, Jim Keith, passed away. Jim’s wife, Amanda arrived home from work and found him collapsed on the floor.

Jim, J. Todd, and I were best friends. No matter how many years passed, we managed to stay close, we even held various jobs together including becoming affiliates after J. Todd got into the industry. Most recently Jim and I have been working together at the GPWA.

Jim (GPWA Jim in the forums) worked closely with many of the affiliate managers here. Those of you who have met or worked with Jim will understand first hand why I have been proud to call Jim a best friend and to work together with him, and why I am so devastated to be sharing news of his death.

One thing that warms my heart are the times I can make a difference to the people I work with, and having the opportunity to enable long-time friends Jim, Anthony, and J. Todd to be working together once again was one of those times for me.

I remember well 2 1/2 years ago when I welcomed Jim as a new member of the GPWA staff in this announcement:

Welcome Jim Keith to the GPWA.

So I join Anthony and J.Todd in saying today is a very sad day for me as well.

I've started typing my reply four times now... only to stop and start again. I talk for a living... but I just cannot find the right words. Words that express how senseless losing Jim is. Words that express the depth of my sorrow for Jim's wife, Amanda, and for my best friend Anthony. Words that capture the sick feeling in my stomach that won't go away.

When I joined the GPWA 15 years ago I had no idea of the things that were in front of me. I've said goodbye to many industry friends, but Jim was more that that to us. He was charming and intelligent. He could sell ice cream to an Eskimo and convince them he did them a favor. He was the person you wanted to hang out with at parties, but he always made you feel included. He was a remarkable person.

The hardships of this industry seem trivial when compared to the personal losses we have shared on these boards. The older I get, the more friends I have on the other side of eternity. I guess that will make my transition more appealing someday when I face my own mortality. Thanks, Michael, for giving us the chance to work together. Thank you, Anthony, for being my friend. And if Jim were here, he would say thanks for helping make him the great man he was.

Good evening,

this is really not only a sad day. It's a day, that will be remembered every year in the future with tears but hopefully also after some years with sharing the wonderful moments at the kitchen table you three have had with him. It is a day, when everything else becomes unimportant and not even faith can give hold and consulation.

I want to express my sincere, heartfelt condoleces to Jim's family, to Anthony and to his both other deep friends, Michael and J.

Never have had the chance to speak with him, saw only his picture and some of his posts.

Like so often, these strokes hits the wrong people. These strokes are so irrational, and one hopes, it is only a bad dream and we will wake up very soon from this nightmare. There is nothing more bad than the final loss of a loved person, and sometimes we will never get over it.

Everything is too fresh and too sad today. The limbs are as heavy as lead, the heart is broken, and the question "Why he?" will remain unanswered.

Again after some time and in some cases after a very long time, one thing should give some strength and also a smile:

Regardless is someone has a religious belief, any belief or not. Eeiher way, our loved ones are immortal, because they live on forever in our memories.
