Default Backlink report in search console

    Hi -

In Search Console the backlink report never seems to show all backlinks. Any idea why this is - I can't find any reason that some links I have don't show up here.

I have had that suspicion as well. Which is why I still disavow all the crap links that show up there.

High end 3rd party sites like LRT will show an enormous amount of other links. I've gone through the arduous process of adding them all to disavow. Not sure it did me any good. Those sorts of things might only be worth a damn if you have a penalty and are trying to get squeaky clean by removing links that Google *might* consider to add into SC...

I'm not sure if this is true. Even if you don't get a penalty, don't they still hurt you in rankings if they are low quality do follow backlinks? Interesting topic however.

Have you checked if the link URL's are indexed?

An excellent idea. However, that kind of manual work would take a really long time for a decent ranking website (they all get spammed a lot once they rank).

Any way to automate that check that you know of Proffa?

Ahrefs Alerts. Set up the ahrefs alerts on your site. You will get notification once the link are indexed. I used this method to monitor links. This is also a good practice to monitor if something happens to existing links. Last week I noticed couple of our links have been deinxed due to noindex tag. No idea how this happened, but I would have never noticed this without the alerts feature.

Best Tool for backlinks is Monitor Backlinks. You receive newsletter each time when a new link is added. You also can check detailed statistics with additional metrics than Ahrefs gives you. You get low quality link signals each time one of the metrics is below the benchmarks. So you can check if the link is indexed by google, no follow or do follow, trust flow, citation flow, spam score, domain authority, page authority, external links and referral traffic. You also have the option to disavow the bad links by simply selecting them whenever you feel some of the metrics indicate low quality. Now what we don't know is when it is indicated to disavow a link and when not, because not all low quality signals indicate by default you should disavow a link.

I personally disavow all links which are not indexed by Google without hesitation. On the other side, I don't waste time disavowing no follow links, while for do follow links I get alerts when Majestic Trust Flow is lower than 10 or Moz Domain Authority lower than 20. However, it I consider links relevant to the industry, I still keep them, especially if were created during manual outreach. There are for instance poker software providers which are very relevant and where you can get free backlinks. Even if their site metrics are not excellent, I still think they can be more helpful than nothing or then wasting money on buying links. What about you? Which is your methodology for link building and/or disavowing links?

What I do is dump all the backlink information I can gather from whichever tools I can access (Ahrefs, SEMrush, GSC, Majestic...) into an Excel workbook and combine the information.

okay, and if the Serch Console shows all the links, but then you delete some from the site-donor, but they still show up in Search Console for months, is this normal?
