Default Baking Bread Trend Over ... Next?

When the covid-19 situation started everyone was baking bread, flour was always out of stock and still yeast is not available.

What have you moved onto as your new favourite dish in the kitchen?

My yeast search has shown that wine yeast is more easily obtained, but must be careful as some of it is not listed as active.

A big part of that yeast, flour and other components they bought(due to panic) to bake bread will not be used and finally will end in a trash basket.

My brother owns a bakery and during the lockdown he worked every day (only half working day, but everyday), mostly with the objective that people should have possibility to have fresh bread on their tables every day.

Many of his clients were asking him to sell yeast and he was giving it them for free, but the same people were buying bread from him the next day.
Making bread requires a lot of knowledge, practice, patience and technical skills, not many "new bakers" will reach to satisfying results and it is quite normal, everyone has to do their job

I have to say that even gluten free flour was very hard to find during the panic buying. We have to use it as our child has coeliac disease. And yet, yeast is still hard to find, and I don't know how long this situation will last...

Nenad, although I had not suffered it myself, I do understand the Gluten free bit, spent a number of years having to make sure we didn't even use the same knife to cut things if I was possibly making a sandwich etc.

There re a number of other flours you can try such as rice flour, tapioca, potato etc, so just in case you haven't thought of it, keep that in mind. (you most likely have but just in case)

After trying bread that I baked myself, I don't buy it at the store anymore. I love the aroma that wafts through the house.

I agree with you. Although I joined the baking trend a bit late, it has now become a routine that allows me to try new recipes and cook healthier alternatives for my family.

I'm not sure what the next trend will be, but for now, I'm fully into meal prep.

I doubt anyone in my area ever made the switch from fast food, I never noticed a lack of baking supplies myself. However, I could never get meat, water, or tp. haha
