Thanks for the news JT. What I don't think Burnham has got a grasp of is that there's a process of attrition already in progress with regards bookmakers on the High Street which is completely independent of anything that happens with aim to permit changes, caused instead by the increasingly punitive tax regime here. The High Streets are largely ghost towns as it is, so removing another reason for people coming into town won't really help the rejuvenation of town centres if that's his goal.

The 'dodgy business' statement - which he didn't retract when it was suggest that perhaps he meant adult amusement centres, not bookmaker shops - suggests to me that a) he doesn't have a grasp of the industry and b) someone influential has been in his ear - most likely Gordon Brown: https://www.independent.co.uk/games/...-b3040368.html

The new UK Prime Minister feels like the same old story, just dressed up differently, and in his case, in some pretty bad-looking clothes, if I may add.

It's a "dodgy business" when it suits them, but apparently not when they raise taxes or appeal to solidarity. What improvements can anyone really expect from politicians who use that kind of language to describe an industry that is actually following (or at least trying to follow) the rules they themselves have put in place?

P.S. You know the public image of politicians is in a bad place when you hear "he exposed himself" and you're not entirely sure whether it was meant literally. At this point, would it really surprise anyone?
