    Default best converting banners

Can anyone recommend which casino banners or types of banners that convert the best?

I'm in the middle of a study on this topic, taking in stats on over 5 million impressions and calculating conversion rates etc. I haven't created the reporting tool yet, but 3 things are standing out at the moment:

    1) A banner that stays in view converts way better than one where the user has to scroll past it to read the content. Logical I guess.

    2) Banners that are highly relevant to the content perform a *lot* better than say, bonus banners and banners that are generic. Not just a bit, but (at a rough guess so far) about 4-5 times better.

    3) Banner click rates "by page" are lower when a single-display always-present banner is shown as opposed to those in a rotation system. But the rotation system only really works when the banners stay in eyesight.

I'm also noticing geo-targetting plays a big part. Some countries react to banners way better than others. For example, the USA reaction rate is just slightly above average, while the Canadian CTR is way lower.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Cheers,

I agree with Simmos comments. Especially his point no 2, be sure to use slots banners on slots pages and blackjack banners on blackjack pages etc for wY better click thru rates.

Simmo, have you done any testing on having a text link directly below the banner?

Yes, I log the click type....but the text link is just literally the name of the casino as the link with a couple of lines of text between the banner (120x600 - see image below for what I mean) and the link. I haven't got round to analysing the results yet to be honest but just had a look at the last 100 or so clicks and banner clicks dominate by a distance.

I think this would be quite different on 468x60 banners personally though.

Hi simmo I hope you don't mind me asking, but what are you using to analyse all of this? Is there a good ad server you recommend?

    Hi Andy,

Actually I've written my own system partly because what I wanted (exactly) wasn't out there, partly because even if it was I couldn't be arsed to learn about (and integrate) it and partly because I'm a techie at heart and I wanted a fun(!) but useful MySQL/PHP project to get my teeth into! I was motivated by an article I read on people spending too much time on trying to get new traffic and not enough on monetising the traffic they already.

It's only being used on 120px width (240/600px depth) banners right now as that's all I use but it measures things like CTR by country, CTR by page, CTR by banner type, CTR by language etc, etc and then rotates placements on the fly depending on the visitor, reactions from specific groups of users and to banners on specific content, collecting stats as it goes.

Actually, the auto-placement system needs some optimisation but it seems to be making good progress so far. Looks to have increased overall CTR by about 30% by targetting more accurately.

I'm toying with the idea of creating a reporting mechanism - at the moment its just pages of stats which make sense to me, but would look confusing to most I suspect LOL - but would probably be very useful for others if it has enough detail. Not decided whether I will yet, or under what situation I would allow access to it, but if I do GPWA will get to know about it, don't worry. I like to show-off

    Cheers

Hi Simmo, if you coded it yourself you deserve to show off. A 30% increase in ctr is very impressive too well done. I have been meaning to give openx a try and was gonna get it modified to fit my specific requirements I just haven't got round to explaining my brief to developer yet. But one of these days I will.

OpenX is the main one and I've heard good reports on it. The one thing I couldn't work out was wheher it optimised placements on the fly. I wanted a system that learn as it went, optimised placements accordingly & didn't need constant montoring. OpenX might well do that, but I couldn't work it out and anyway, I fancied the challenge LOL.
