Default The best SEO tools, do I need more than Ahrefs?

    Hi,

I currently use Ahrefs as my primary SEO tool, and when looking through some of the forums it seems that a lot of people are saying it's a good base and foundation as a tool.

However, I was wondering whether I'm missing anything. Does anyone have any recommendations for more in-depth tools that can help me take my site to the next level, or just give me further insight?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rory

I know Semrush is also a good one to consider! We just onboarded with them and they have excellent aftersales service - their rep might be able to help you out. You can easily sched a discovery meeting with them. We're having one next week and the team's pretty excited.

    Cheers

Strictly speaking, you don't need ANY tools to succeed with SEO. Using multiple tools is overkill and usually leads to an over-reliance on tools, though. Since most of your competition are using basically the same sets of tools, the best way to succeed is to focus on what you're doing that doesn't rely on tools at all.

But I don't see getting to the next level based on signing up for more tools than a single good one like ahrefs or semrush.

Serp robot allows users to track 10 KWs free of charge. Other than that, I only really use Ahrefs, GSC and Analytics.

If you use the same tools as everybody else, for the same things, what are you likely to get?

    That's right.

Results that are pretty much the same (or lesser) as everybody else gets. Well, over time, anyway.

I'm with Randy. You don't need tools. But clearly, different tools have their base uses. And some of those will give value.

The extent of that value really depends on where the user (and/or the site(s) concerned) is at in their journey.

And what precisely is meant by 'for SEO'.

So Rory. It's not clear where you're at. 'just started working for a casino affiliate company' kind of implies that might be an organization with one or more sites already running and maybe aged. It could be a new startup affiliate, or it could be your own company and site.

The last two would likely have considerably different requirements for help from some tools than the first might. And indeed, the use of (and cost of) tools just may not be needed at all in those two 'I'm a starter' situations.

'SEO' is big. Much bigger than ahrefs, or Semrush, or anything specific.

Think 'what do I mean by SEO', and then identify what you can do without tools for each of those aspects, what you could get free (assuming at least some sort of budget control is necessary), and what you need to supplement with.

    ******

It's right to ask the question. Because if anyone thinks 'ahrefs is my solution for 'SEO', then likely they're going to struggle somewhat. But the answer (if given comprehensively) is massive, and really it'll be a good foundation to understand why it's massive from the outset.

    LOL, hardly.

I use ahrefs myself, but I often wonder if it's worth the money. The price seems to go up all the time.

Also, I just see a lot of people relying heavily on tools, and buying more tools is almost never the answer. I tried SEMRush for a while, but I liked ahrefs better. I don't feel strongly enough about it to recommend one over the other. I've tried a LOT of SEO tools over the years, but ahrefs and the search engines themselves seem to be the only tools I use regularly.

    YMMV

Ahrefs is top notch. But I would recommend Screaming Frog for crawling very robust. And for keyword tracking either Accuranker or Advanced Web Rankings.

Some SEO tools are better than others at helping you track your website's search engine rankings, analyze your website's traffic and competitor data, and improve your website's SEO performance.

I highly recommend SEMRush (its my fave) and Yoast.

    Good Luck

I believe Ahrefs is in itself a robust tool to use and perhaps you do not need any other tool. However, would really depend on what is your requirement from the tool really in the end

There are lots of tools but I think to have upper hand than the competitor, one may uses difference tools since they can put /block ahref bot in order to crawl its backlinks

    Some tools may consider
    Semrush
    Majestic

Remember they can /block crawling semrush and majestic too. So will need to find the new tools that be able to track competitors

But so far, the general tools are

Ahrefs - for backlink crawling is the best tool
Semrush - I believe the keyword tracking is better than Semrush

    Hope this help!

Semrush is not accurate at all.

A site having 10 visits a day in GSC is often shown as having 100, and then in certain cases sites having 100 visits a day will show having 20 to 40.

It's good to pick up trends, however. And keep an eye on competition that have been hit by a Google update. Otherwise don't rely on it.

all depends on what you use it for.. some of the features are outdated or mythical methods, but checking links and keyword positons along with manual work in google they are good.

As an mainstream SEO "expert" if I may.. I am doing this job for 10 years now...

I can say that the ONLY tools you should have to manage a SEO campaign are:

    - GSC (Google Search Console) - not quite a tool... it is just the common sense to use it.
    - Ahrefs (for links and to check what type the content to create in the future)
    - SEO Monitor (SEOMonitor.com) for tracking keywords.
    - Screaming Frog (CRAWLER for your website to optimize your technical problems and also the inner- content problems)

    You don't need anything else.
    just here...

I use Ahrefs and SEranking. SEranking has a backlink monitor as well, so you can add all your backlinks there and get a notification as soon as one backlink goes down.

These are really the only two tools you need in my opinion.

I've found Content King really useful for error checking content/page issues! It emails real time issues with site changes, h1 issues etc etc

Yes the tool can help but in my opinion other skills like a good command over the language is a good skill to have with some knowledge of web development could also help in the overall performance of the website
