Ahrefs and Semrush are the top services in my opinion. I tested them on a small selection of sites and somewhere more data was shown by Ahrefs and somewhere by Semrash, but both were on par.

I can also recommend Neil Patel's Ubersuggest as a cheap one. You can track keys, backlinks and watch keys. It's got a good base and isn't too far behind Ahrefs. On the downside - no mass analysis, on the upside - the price of $29.

Ahrefs is pretty well rounded, but If I would suggest you just 1 more to have a more rounded package, It would be majestic.
It's trust flow(TF) and citation flow (CF) info is very useful when researching about the health of not only your site, but also about how the health of the backlinks that you are buying.

What part of SEO are you struggling with?

- Link building? - you defo need ahrefs to see what your competition is doing
- Technical SEO? - ahrefs site audit is decent, but there are cheaper / better tools put there like SiteBulb or Screaming Frog
- Topical Authority? - ahrefs should give you a decent enough map compared to your competitors
- Internal linking / site structure? - ahrefs is not going to help you much, ahrefs is unable to read most internal links on a site, unless you do a full crawl...and it would take quite a lot of time to crawl all your competitor sites with ahrefs
- Content structure? Again - ahrefs is not going to help you much - tools like Surfer might be better

As a generic SEO tool, ahrefs is great, but knowing what your weak points are might give you other good options you can use

A tool is as good as the hand that wields it.

I love Ahrefs. Yes it costs quite a bit per month but I wouldn't want to do without. Especially for link building work.

But it depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you don't know what you are going to use it for, than of course it's money wasted. Same with data for the sake of date. Date interpreted becomes knowledge.

Other tools that I find essential for SEO are: Screaming Frog and Google Search Console.

Google analytics is also useful but I think that is more for on site optimization for conversation rather than SEO.

And I have a partner that builds his own tools connected to APIs. Those are very powerful.

Ahrefs is awsome, Ubersuggest is also a good tool, but free version only allow 3 searches per day. Ahref has a good traffic toll aswell, unlimited!

Sometimes it is worth using Semrush, since its database is different from Ahrefs and you can find additional ones. cluster for development from competitors, plus collect a broader semantic core. But in any case, the ahrefs functionality is now so developed that I don’t use anything else in my work. The GSC + Ahrefs connection will answer most of your questions regarding site issues.
