Boy does time fly. It has been over 2.5 years since I started my first affiliate site. I started with strictly poker, and it took about the industry average 4-6 months before I started seeing any income. I started maybe even a little slower then most, as I had no background in building websites, SEO, or running my own business.

After launching and building up a couple of poker websites I was making about $1000 in revenue per month and getting very excited. Back then I was pretty into online poker and enjoyed writing about it knowing I could be making money from it.

From visiting the different gambling affiliate forums I came across some sports betting affiliate sites, and being a huge sports fan I was naturally interested in creating a sports betting related site. I wasn't that knowledgeable in the sports betting industry but I launched my first site on the topic. I really only knew other poker affiliates so I was having troubles getting links to the site and getting it ranking at all. I put it on the back burner and went back to what I knew I could make money with - poker sites. I built out some more poker sites and saw my revenue slowly growing.

While working on my poker sites I was always thinking about how I could get into sports, but I really didn't know how to make money with it. I did a lot of research and figured I could probably make some money if I targeted the right terms, so I started a general [URL="http://www.thesportsgeek.com/"]Sports Betting[/URL] site. It took about 6 months, but I finally started seeing some money come in from sports betting (not too much compared to my poker sites but I still was happy with it).

When I first started making money from sports betting sites I knew that it was what I wanted to focus on. Poker got boring to me. Although I still enjoy playing the odd poker game and know there is money to be made, I am not a huge fan of writing about it like I am with sports. I have kept up with my poker sites so they can still earn me income, but I have been launching a lot of different mini sports sites including my [URL="http://www.worldcuppredictions.org/"]World Cup Predictions[/URL] site and my [URL="http://www.betonkentuckyderby.org/"]Bet on Kentucky Derby[/URL] site. These sports betting related sites are just mini sites I put up for different niches. I am working on getting a network of smaller sites up, while I build out one bigger sports betting portal.

I am enjoying things a lot more lately, and find I can write a lot more content because I enjoy what I'm writing about.

The point of this blog post was pretty much to say follow your passion. If you love poker build poker sites, if you love sports build out sports sites, if you love computer games you can build computer game related sites and make money from them too. Whatever you are passionate about try building a website for it - working on something you are really into doesn't seem like work and you will enjoy it 10x more!
