Caching - How To?

In my WordPress sites I use a plugin for caching my pages to speed it up. How involved is it to do the same on a non WordPress site? If there isn't a plugin available, I imagine you can still do this somehow on the server side. I did some quick searches in G and for someone like myself who isn't very server savvy, is it worth trying to accomplish or is it pretty involved?

You can activate Gzip server side, and htaccess you can add in caching code, or create one or you could use cloudflare CDN and cache it there..

I've set caching in the .htaccess file and it works just fine.

Just remember to block the SE's from seeing the cache directory.

I've set caching in the .htaccess file and it works just fine.

Could you explain that to me ? I have not much content on my wordpress site, but I would like to know how to do it.

A nice easy plugin that has few problems is quick cache, It will work well for what you need

I have just visited the plugin's page on the wordpress.org, and it's very popular plugin; thousands of downloads every week.
But which one is better; W3 Total Cache or this one ?

w3 cache is much more popular, and also faster.. But many people have had problems.. including myself.. in the end I disabled all plugins, enabled googlepagespeed mod in the server "I use a VPS" and coupled it witch cloudflare.. But I get a lot of traffic in bursts due to the type of content I have, e.g 1 hour before a big game I can have the server working overtime, but for a site like yours Quick cache is a good choice. its easy to setup and makes a notable difference

I've just implemented some very much needed code for some stats stuff I've had on site that I KNEW was hugely inefficient and that needed to be cached - eg listing old previews.

I'd day be careful when you do install w3 cache, there's a million settings to it and if you don't configure it right it can conflict with other plugins causing server issues. The point of it is to speed up your pages, but if you don't see a significant improvement, I'd probably suggest not to even bother using it. More dependent on how many assets you've got on the page that needs loading
