    Considering UK Affiliate Licensing

The sweeping regulatory changes in the United Kingdom look
as if they may sweep up some some webmasters with them.
Discussion of licensing affiliates finds those who
support the idea as well as those opposed to it.
Also, which industry events are still taking place?
Which have been cancelled? And which are moving online?

I'm quite worried about how quickly covid is spreading. I can't believe that President Trump is pushing to have schools reopened, despite the fact that there are thousands of deaths recorded on a daily basis

This is the biggest crisis and challenge that the world is facing.

I don't know where the world's headed and what's going to happen with this pandemic. I used to be more believing when I saw covid cases dropping. But now, they're back on the rise and I don't see an end in sight. The world has changed so radically and I fear that the world is in such imminent danger mainly because of this relentless pandemic.

Also, from late February to May, a recent study found that the pandemic caused 147 million people, or 4.2% of the global workforce, to lose full-time jobs. Absolutely terrible.

A great show JT and I hope you look after yourself.

I totally agree with Licensing until the point of paying the fee. Why would I pay a fee if i'm just an advertiser? Even 1K a year is way too much for any UK affiliate (most of us just making a living btw!!! and most of us are FULLY COMPLIANT). These will force many of us going to the Grey market and ADVERTISE TO UK PLAYERS grey market casino sites. Why Do I have to pay for something that is making little or no money anymore? You might say "you should leave the UK market" well I do not want. Writing reviews and presenting a casino site is FREEDOM OF SPEECH, why would you charge me on that thing? Yes I CAN make money or NOT, but you cannot ask me to pay a license for my FREEDOM OF SPEECH. I ALREADY PAY TAXES IN THE UK. This is a sham and people doing this should be ashamed of themselves (crooked and greedy).

Can you guys please make a poll where we can vote for a License with fee or License without fee? ... I think we all should have a say in this and not only the big crooked ones ! Thank you.

PS: Don't blame affiliates if they go grey market after this, and if this succeed i hope you do indeed pay big license fees and get nothing out of it!

While I think that regulations of the operators and the gambling activity locally is very important, I'm also totally disagreeing and against licensing affiliates specially if it's including more ongoing fees and paperwork.. this is obviously going to be good for the big firms and the small affiliates will not have a chance. The problem is that the countries want more income... and specially in UK as JT said they like to over regulate things and more licensing to this market will kill whatever left from this already dying market

I'm struggling to understand exactly what the license is for and how it's justified.

What other commodity requires media to acquire licenses to display advertising for the product?
    Guns and ammunition? No.
    Alcohol or cigarettes? No.
    Porn? No.
Left wing / right wing political ads and rhetoric ? No.

All of these items are clearly more harmful to society - yet they're freely displayed.

So exactly why is it that media needs to license in order to display gambling advertisements?
    What is the logic?

Unless of course IT IS SIMPLY ABOUT RAISING TAXES THROUGH FEES.

I'm still not sure what to make of this really. One plus point I do see is that it may weed out the affiliate managers who also operate their own sites.
