From my point of view I am pointing them to sports betting within the guidelines of the gaming commission.
I think the licensed sports brands won't allow Australian players to play in the casino or they'd risk losing their license. Could be wrong on this but I know Bet365 don't allow casino for AU.

Personally I think that a sport only site aimed at Australia is the best way to go for you to start - your competition will be way less and you'll be much more in tune with what your audience wants and needs to know. Provide excellent information, post regularly and try and become an authority in sports betting in Australia.

After you've got a handle on that I'd start looking at diversifying out to other countries/niches etc...

I would start by targeting your own market, you will understand it more e.g. you mentioned you know which companies are pushing in that market by doing TV ads. This type of knowledge gives you an advantage. You will also be able to speak in your own language, you know the local lingo and correct tone to speak to your own people, I know in this case it's English, but even UK and US English is different in terms of tone and word usage. It's little subtle things like that which can actually make a big difference.

i think one website targeting one language and after that you can spread, best possible way may to use WPMU for the same.

As for promotion, you should have quality contents first on your website, once you have contents, get them shared on social media, also try to build some links yourself instead buying low quality links. Be careful buying ads

Try to optimize your website yourself, take care of Google quality guidelines and you will start ranking slowly
