    Default Cryptocurrency Forecasts - 2018

It’s the end of the year and thought I would see what the latest predictions for the cryptocurrencies are for the end of 2018. Of course all the predictions are opinions, some with good research by those that have the experience and knowledge.

From a sample of predictions I have read that Bitcoin could reach by the end of 2018 between $30,000 - $40,000 or a high of $60,000. Bitcoin Cash could reach $8,000, Ethereum $5,000 and Ripple $5 - $10.

It will be interesting to read some opinions and reflect on the thread in 12 months to see what really happened. Regardless of the predictions I will still remain cautious and not be investing more than I am willing to possibly lose.

Some different random numbers that are not just linear regressions.

Btc 15k (with many forks and volatility year)
Bch or LTC - one of them will decline a lot
Eth 450 (dapps will have no market, other ICO platforms will be used)
    XRP 0.40
Iota 55 (I must be at least a bit positive..)
BTG or another BTC fork will do quite well.
Some new coins we never heard about will go up a lot.
Coinmaketcap will be roughly the same.

    Happy new year.

    My #1 pick for 2018 is ...

    OmiseGO
(OMG) - It is going to explode and may reach $100 this year as their operations expand in the Asian regions. Even Vitalik Buterin has said that OMG is his favorite token model. https://twitter.com/vitalikbuterin/s...536000?lang=en

I sure hope that this will be the case. This is all very interesting stuff, and Bitcoin is becoming a global thing now

Impossible to predict with any surety.

Currently, most of the valuations are boosted with FOMO (fear of missing out) by regular people with small holdings, and regular people with big holdings who got in early and may be shaken out if the market starts to tank. If BTC dropped below 10K then it could be a rout, with exchanges clogged and people eventually only selling for 20-25% of current values, that's IF they can find a buyer.

While I understand the blockchain concept, and it's potential for use in removing middlemen from financial services and stock markets, I have yet to see a SINGLE token that actually projects how holding the tokens in a successful project actually generates revenues back to holders of the token in any real form that justifies the token price.

It seems that the only REAL use case for the tokens is a method of funds transfer for affiliate programs that can't provide proper banking services because they are working grey markets - or to HODL and eventually sell to someone else for a (hopefully) higher price.

I love the idea of Cardano / IOTA, I can see how Ripple (the company) can work to reduce Nostro accounts for banks and reduce costs, and I think that OMGs plan to provide crypto-banking to the unbanked is fantastic. But even so - having worked through all the papers and notices and financial models - I cannot see how / where that translates to a return to the token holder ... or what benefits I get from holding the token.

Sure, I can hold it for a while and then sell it a higher price to some other person ... but ... IS THAT REALLY a basis for increasing price for 99.9% of these rubbish coins that you didn't know about last month - and will forget about in a months time.

    ----------------------------

So with all that in mind.

If 2018 is the year that crypto-currency grows-up with institutional money coming in and investing / holding then transactional costs and privacy will NOT be the main considerations and I expect the brand names to be bought up and rise in price - so BTC, ETH, and XRP should boost.

If 2018 is the year when people start asking tokens to SHOW THEIR WORK and actually demonstrate usefulness then practical applications like PAY and OMG that are likely to deliver banking services to the market and raise revenues should boost - and many of the pie-in-the-sky meme coins (99% ?) should plummet towards zero.

If 2018 is the year that the US gets serious with their TAX rules, asking for details on every single crypto-currency trade and switch, and threatening and brow-beating the average American out of the market, then crypto-currency interest and prices will fall as US demand diminishes.

If 2018 is simply going to be a year where we need to guess which coins/tokens that South Korea and Japan are going to pump high and get on board early and sell to latecomers for a staggering price before it falls? If so - then how long can that last?

You choose which path is more likely if you can ... each one leads to a very different market.

each one leads to a very different market
    absolutely

I guess the main game changer will be bitcoin scaling. Extreme scenarios are:

There will be no visible progress of LN, everything will be just promises and tests + people will want to transact more and clog network. Bitcoin will be under 10K, maybe way under 10K. Alts then might flourish or they can go even deeper in **** if bitcoin falls nosedive. Also some flippening can happen (another alt is a new reserve currency, but I think this scenario is much less probable than many people think/hope).

LN will be quickly deployed and used. There will be no bugs in code. People will also start using Segwit. Schnorr will be deployed via softfork. All together is with low probability, but then btc can go to 100K easily. Then alts that were just mimicking btc will fall. Alts that wanted to be just better cryptomoney as well. But alts that want to solve other things might go up as well a lot (partially because the btc gains will be spread into alts).

This is why I like IOTA for example, because it somehow covers both scenarios or at least it is my imagination.

    ----------------------------

Another division should be onset of POS and non POW coins with ETH POS fork. If POS proves to have no problems then bitcoin will be weaker. Bitcoin will also fork into POS coin and that fork I definitely want to own. Otherwise BTC will be much stronger. POS was indeed tested already and works probably fine, but only with smaller coins.

I think the top was 20 K. It can go up to more insane value but at the end it will go back below 1000, below 100 when it will be forbidden by the US, and back to 1 (one) dollar if the US decide to put in jail bitcoin user.

The upside is just manipulation by miners (it generally go up during weekend when there is less participants) that try to bring stupid people into the game and selling them at inflated price, and at the end Bitcoins will bring a lot of tears to a lot of people.

    I second that.

Thank Goodness, there are still people who are not this kind of fact-denier.
AGD in the meantime is no casino affilate forum.
It's the playground for Bitcoin shills.
    What a pity.
People who are mental stable, should sell their Bitcons.
I really don't know, what they are waiting for.
Like idiot gamblers, who had a huge winning streak and can't understand, that Lady Luck will go away and then everything is gone.
The same with this Bitcoin speculation machine.
    It's nothing else but luck.

The major part of Bitcoins are from criminal origin. This is a proven fact, the insane-I-will-hold-my-coins-forever dreamers does not like to hear, but it's still the truth, and this will not have a good end for Bitcoin holders if they ride until the last hour on a dead horse, when the 4 doomdays will begin.

It is about greed and it's a bubble, like the dotcom bubble.
Some idiots will call us "no-coiners", but the "no-coiners" are the only realists, who are working with facts, arguments and common sense.

One idiot here on GPWA even said, that Bitcoin will even survive a worldwide nuclear war.

    Really?!
How will the Bitcoin survive without electricity?
Because the electromagnetic pulse of a fistful of H-Bombs, ignited in the atmosphere, destroys everything forever that needs electricity.

You see the arguments of the "no-brain-coiners".
They live in a fantasy world like insane conspiracy theorists.

Ordinary people, who were lucky with Bitcoin should make their profit and that's it.
Then you are smart and a real Bitcoin guy.
Like professional gamblers who knows facts, risks and have no mental illness. They know that a good profit is better than the hope of 10 times that profit if the good profit is safe in that moment.
Don't act like a casino loser.
You can not even buy a piece of bread with Bitcoin.
Unless you sell it to have real money.
Then you can buy bread with it.

Note to Roulette Zeitung - and other "no-coiners" out there - that automatically nay-say a vast field of human endeavour without really taking the time to investigate it.

    THE SCALE OF CRYPTO :

There is a vast universe of tokens and projects out there beyond Bitcoin - in fact I note today that BTC is just 34% of the total market cap. So there are literally over 1200+ additional tokens and projects worth and additional 2x more than BTC.

I'll provide a link today that links all the projects - and you can go into the individual projects via the site and actually learn more about each and every one and choose what to invest in.

There are tens of thousands of people working on hundreds of blockchain projects - this field will probably be as impactful on first world countries as the internet has been in the next 10-20 years.

    CRIME AND CRYPTO :

Crime exists everywhere with almost every medium of wealth. Cash probably makes up 99% of it as it's so easily used. But gold, diamonds, bearer bonds etc all also provide higher value anonymous sources of funding. Bitcoin is NOT anonymous. It is completely trackable and traceable.

If criminals ARE SAVVY enough to understand bitcoin and use it they should not be dumb enough to use a medium that tracks and traces each and every movement. There ARE anonymous crypto-tokens but bitcoin is not one of them - and only idiots or ignorants (like Jamie Dimon) maintain the belief that it is so.

Crypto was not created to support crime.

    --------------------

While fiat may rule the physical world for a while longer .... I think that Crypto and blockchain WILL be the financial arm of the internet in the near future.

    DO YOUR RESEARCH ...

I've been holding UBIQ for long time now, I see huge potential in them. It's similar to Ethereum, where they learn from their mistakes. They have a great dev team and barely spent any time on marketing, yet they have decent market cap (although outside top 100). Unlike 99% of every other altcoin, the dev team didn't pre-mine/hold any coins before released to market. They had to buy or mine just like anyone.

I think Ripple team owns something like 60-70% of all coins, which would make the founder richer than Zuckerberg with current price (altho he'd never be able to sell that huge chunk with that price). I think that's a sign that the dev team are not just using this crypto hysteria to make as much money as possible, but to create a working product.

It's a low market cap relatively to the big boys though, it's more of a high risk / high reward.

Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency world will become so popular that the exchanges will be overwhelmed with the sheer number of people trying to register new accounts.
